Ben and I are hiking the Atla Via 1 in the Dolomites 🇮🇹 this summer, light-packing hut to hut 75 miles over 5 days, gunna be hard as sh*t but sooo beautiful and I cannot waaaait. So I’ve been looking at a lot of design and architecture all over the Alps. BIG love and respect to all my amazing mamas out there today! There is nothing more important to me than these two munchkins - Iris & Oscar ❤️❤️. I’m so lucky to be their mama and guide them through this crazy and amazing thing called life. This Mother’s Day, alongside an amazing community of women in fashion & design, we’re proud to support @everytown Everytown for Gun Safety. Family and motherhood take many forms, and we believe that no mother - or sister, aunt, grandmother, caregiver, or person at all - should have to worry about a child’s safety because of senseless gun violence. ❗️Crazy stat here - Since 2020, firearms have been the leading cause of death for children and teens in the U.S.❗️and 75% of youth ages 15-21 cite mass shootings as a major source of stress. Everytown works with lawmakers across the aisle at the community and state levels to advance gun safety legislation and increase education around safe gun storage, common-sense background checks, and other measures that help prevent school shootings, domestic violence, suicides, and unintentional injuries. We want to do better for our children and communities, and today, as we reflect on what it means to be mothers, we are proud to amplify Everytown’s advocacy for safer communities. @axelvervoordt has always been a big inspiration to me, I discovered his work when Ben and I were living in our very sweet very tiny Brooklyn Heights apartment about 15 years ago now. I love the worlds he creates, and emphases on raw strong materials at the forefront of his design, yet it still feels comfortable, architecturally unique and collected. With us out in the mountains now, I find myself even more attracted to worn timber, stone floors and (as always) raw plaster - which are always present in his work. Just simple and strong. I love how nothing ever feels too perfect or overly designed (always a goal of mine!) rather it all feels found and confident with some unexpected moments - so important, that’s where the soul comes in 🦋 All of these up on the new Mountain design pin boards! Life Update ⛰️💎 and slight change of plan :) We have moved west instead of east. This fall, we were thinking of our next family chapter in England, but some exciting projects kept us here in the States ❤️ so we pivoted. We’ve also always wanted to live out in the Rocky Mountains, where I grew up coming to and where we were married 10 years ago :) After 12 amazing years in Charleston and the sale of 2/3 of our restaurants, we knew this was our window if we wanted to do this. We have chosen the tiny magical town of Crested Butte, CO. We have fallen in love with its amazing community, unique architecture and insane outdoor lifestyle - just what we wanted for this next exciting family adventure. @basic_kitchen will continue to serve the same delish food in Charleston with our amazing partners in @evalilies @charlie_laytonuk & @jeremyggraves Basic Projects continues of course, and slightly back to our Adventurous roots dreamed up on our cross country bike ride @arideinthecountry . We have some exciting new projects in the works out west now (more on those later!) and still have some fabulous projects in Charleston (woohoo @ethos_ac & @fahertybrand !) so feeling very lucky to do what we love in places we love. Kids have their first week of school in the bag now and everyone is adjusting well - funny how us parents are almost more nervous with change than them 🥹 See our mega road trip here and a few bits from our first few weeks living in the mountains… life is good ☀️
