It’s Friday and we are still celebrating the extraordinary weekend at Terra Madre Americas hosted by @visitsacramento and @slowfoodusa !
Many thanks to @carootsofchange for inviting us to engage with Terra Madre attendees and connect with producers, nutrition experts, and food innovators in the ROC Slow Meat Pavilion!
On Saturday, our very own Food Advocacy Manager, Kathy Webster moderated “Buy Direct, Grow Change: Regenerative Ranchers Share How Direct Sales Health the Land and Support Ranchers” featuring Carrie & Tom Richards of @richardsgrassfed and Jason Walker of @starwalkerfarms . Together, they explored how direct relationships with eaters strengthen both ranchers and the health of ecosystems.
On Sunday, TKREF shepherd Mukethe Kawinzi joined Chef @duskie_estes and artisan butcher Eric V. Miller @evm_vmm_realz of Corfini Meats for a hands-on butchery demonstration of a TomKat Ranch goat.
It was also wonderful to see our founder, Kat Taylor take the stage alongside school food and child nutrition visionaries Alice Waters, Chef Ann Cooper, and Kelsey Nederveld, in conversation about reimagining school meals and advancing child health.
We left inspired, energized, and grateful for the opportunity of sharing TKREF’s mission of providing healthy food on working lands in ways that regenerate the planet and inspire others to take action.
For nearly a century, the number of American farms has been shrinking- from 6.8 million in 1935 to fewer than 2 million today For the small family farms still working our land, access to fair and flexible financing remains one of the biggest barriers to survival.
By supporting lenders who provide patient, farmer-focused capital, we can help small producers thrive- strengthening soil health, biodiversity, rural economies, and our food system as a whole.

We are so grateful to host a summer intern program at TomKat Ranch. We learn as much from these bright students as we teach. Cheers to Kelly, Seamus, Hannah, and Owen as you head back into the school year!

🌾 At our recent Healthy Food + Healthy Planet workshop, we were honored to welcome Bob Quinn of the @quinn_institute in Montana — a true pioneer in regenerative organic farming and the mind behind the ancient grain Kamut®.
Bob shared his groundbreaking research on ancient grains and their powerful connection to human health, food as medicine, and climate resilience. From school gardens to national agricultural systems, his work is reshaping how we think about farming, food, and nutrition. 🌱
As Bob says: “Wouldn’t it be great if farmers were paid for nutrients per acre rather than bushels per acre?”
