It is easy to focus on the kitchen, but some of the hardest-working spaces in a home are the ones behind the scenes.
The mudroom and laundry room need to do more than look good. They support busy mornings, laundry days, storage, organization, and everything in between if the kitchen is the heart, this is the brains :)
This is where thoughtful cabinetry design helped bring the vision together, carrying a cohesive look beyond the kitchen and into the spaces that make the home function beautifully every day.

Big week. This was Wednesday and it was concrete day. After forming and prepping for a couple weeks it was time to get some mud in these footings. Getting out of the ground is traditionally the hardest part of the job and I will be relieved once this stage is complete. This is the first of two pours. Next week we survey and form up the walls and columns. The race is on to be ready for the mods in June!!
Unlike everyone else that I’ve seen who went through the fire, it wasn’t practical or financially viable to remove the damaged concrete so we came up with a strategy to remove the damaged parts by hand, form around existing parts and encase in new concrete. We abandoned certain elements and poured a bunch of new sections. It’s a big step forward but definitely still looks like a war zone.
They were LONG hot days grinding on the rock and dirt and I had the best guys by my side. Caleb, Josiah, (and their crew), Peter, Trevor and Jim with their excavators, KRM and Rebo and of course Ray and Susan who have let me stay in their suite two doors over. They are the best!

Knocked it out of the park. @kesler_talbot stepped up and worked his ass off to play Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors and nailed it. It’s a deceivingly hard role, the sing is big and complicated melodically, the acting chops require nuance and strong choices balancing comedy and heartfelt honesty. It’s physical and you get to act with a plant. Very proud of my son. I also got to sit beside Ashlyn who leaned over and said “he reminds me of you dad”…which I take as a big compliment. 👏🏻

I’m super grateful that I got to bring @ashlyn.talbot with me on this weeks adventure. Any parent knows that solo time with your kids is the best. And any parent with teenagers also is very aware that the opportunities for these times together are numbered. We got to stay with my brother and family in Nelson and soak up that family vibe, we got to drive and chat for many many hours, we got to laugh and share stories, we got to film for our new TV series, I got to introduce Ash to everyone (proud dad) and we got to see the beginning of the house build together.
These memories and this trip are locked in th memory banks forever. Thanks for coming with me Ash!
On Earth Day I got to drive deep into the mountains and spend the day with Gerald - the Forest Development Manager @kalesnikoff_
I learned a ton about the nuanced strategies they implement and the collaborations they have with the community and government to make sure their forestry plan is focused on every element and challenge within our forests. A delicate balance between future generations, climate projections & wildfire risk reduction.
This will make a beautiful chapter in season 2 ‘Todd Talbot Builds: After the Fire’ 🔥
Road trip!
Another big week and this time it’s in the Kootenays. 4 days @kalesnikoff_ with the production team filming for season 2 of ‘Todd Talbot Builds: After the Fire’. We also have the Fire resilience experts traveling in from across North America for a burn demonstration…so many cool things happening this week.
But the most important thing today was being with @ashlyn.talbot for our 8 hour drive.
