The incomparable Chico Fernandez fled Cuba with his family in 1959, on the Havana-to-Key West ferry with his Mercedes roadster. He promptly proceeded to help shape the future of saltwater fly fishing. We had a blast visiting with him last week and cooking up a few @tailflyfishing plans. There are parts of my story I’ve kept close for a variety of reasons. When @enickens , editor of @tailflyfishing , approached me, I knew it was time to share it all. I am truly humbled by the piece and grateful for the opportunity to open up. My hope is that my story the current Issue 81 offers strength to anyone walking through a hard season—and a little extra motivation to keep chasing your dreams and fighting for what you believe in. If you’re not already a subscriber to Tail Magazine, I highly recommend signing up. It’s a beautiful publication doing meaningful work.

Well this was a surprise for my first publication! When @enickens reached out about featuring my floating crab in the Sept/Oct issue of Tail magazine, I figured it would be a small blurb somewhere towards the back of the magazine. Then I started getting messages from random guys asking about the fly and complimenting the spread. I hadn’t seen it yet myself, and could not get my hands on a hard copy to save my life because I started my subscription too close the release of this issue. So that’s when @filmandfeather told me he got a copy from @alquattrocchi at a casting class out in CA, and was kind enough to send it to me so I had it as a keepsake. Thank you so much dude! This is super special to me because it’s almost like a double feature..one part being my fly and the other being my photo of that fly. Although I live in Denver now, I grew up on the space coast in Florida and this kind of brings everything back full circle. . Thank you Eddie for reaching out and putting me in the magazine in such a big way, I’m really proud of this and I appreciate it so much! .
