Three bills improving accountability in the Louisiana commercial menhaden industry have cleared the Louisiana state senate and will soon be on their way to Governor Landry to be signed into law! We are grateful to the many anglers and conservationists who raised their voices in favor of these common-sense reforms. These bills will require AIS tracking on every menhaden vessel, penalties for buffer zone violations, and public access to harvest data—all important steps towards sustainable Gulf fisheries and healthy coastal habitats. BTT thanks the Louisiana State Senate, the Natural Resources Committee, and the House sponsors of these bills, Rep. Vincent Cox, Rep. Jerome Zeringue, and Rep. Joseph Orgeron. We thank our conservation partners, @CCALouisiana and @TheTRCP , for their ongoing efforts. BTT will continue to advocate for safe and habitable waters for migrating tarpon in the Gulf. Stay tuned for more ways you can help. Dive deeper: the Backwoods University podcast from @MeatEater has a new bonus episode about the passage of these three bills. Built for long days on the water and the places they lead. Tom Beckbe is proud to partner with @bonefishtarpontrust in support of their work conserving and restoring some of the world’s most important flats fisheries and habitats. Together, we’ve developed a collection designed for time spent fishing, exploring, and protecting the waters we all value. A portion of proceeds from the collection supports BTT’s science-based conservation efforts across the United States, The Bahamas, Belize, and Mexico. #tombeckbe #bonefishandtarpontrust #tarpon #bonefish #permit #flyfishing #conservation

"The art of looking for fish in shallow water was insanely addicting, and it became the only thing I wanted to do," says @captnicklabadie . "I didn’t see a life where I wasn’t chasing fish every day, and the only way I found to justify the hobby was to become a guide."
