We're in it for the long haul. That's how conservation works. It takes time - but safeguarding critical habitats and the public lands and waters that make days like this possible is worth every moment.

Fish and wildlife populations depend on Farm Bill conservation programs to create and enhance habitat, and hunters and anglers depend on them for access. The recent House passage of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 was a major step forward towards a bipartisan Farm Bill, but further debate will occur as the bill moves to the Senate. You can help. Conservation is, and should be, a shared priority regardless of party affiliation or ideology. Congress needs to hear that this is important to you. Take action at the link in our bio. The TRCP thanks both House and Senate Agriculture Committee leadership for their work toward a bipartisan Farm Bill that supports habitat and access.

Healthy Watersheds mean better fish and wildlife habitat plus reduced wildfire risk and improved hunting and fishing opportunities. Nowhere is this more true than in the drought-stricken Colorado River Basin, spanning 7 western states, including Arizona. Its White Mountains offer incredible fishing for native trout that face dwindling habitat. A Colorado River Protection Fund is currently being considered for inclusion in the AZ state budget, to mitigate impacts from the state's uncertain water future. By improving water infrastructure and supporting water conservation, this fund could improve watershed health and protect important fish and wildlife habitat. Record-breaking drought and extreme heat have pushed natural systems in Arizona to the brink, and the state's fish, wildlife, and we who value them are feeling the strain. A new $30 million Colorado River Protection Fund is currently being considered for inclusion in the Arizona state budget, with the goal of mitigating impacts from the state's uncertain water future. Contact your legislators and encourage them to support a Colorado River Protection Fund. 👉 link in bio

640 Million Acres! These acres include our National Forests and Bureau of Land Management lands which provide irreplaceable hunting and fishing opportunities to millions of Americans. Many of the best trout and salmon rivers originate on federal lands, and these public landscapes provide intact habitat that is essential for the long-term survival of big game species. Federally managed public lands are also the backbone of our nation’s outdoor recreation industry, which contributed $1.3 trillion in economic output in 2024 and supports 5.2 million jobs nationwide. In the Arena: Remembering Ted Turner The conservation community lost one of its most consequential champions this week with the passing of Ted Turner – a founding supporter of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership whose belief in this organization helped make it possible. While the world knew him as the media mogul who built CNN and reshaped how Americans consume news, those of us in the hunting and fishing community knew him as something else entirely: a fierce, tireless, and deeply personal defender of the American land. Ted Turner didn’t approach conservation as a hobby or a public relations exercise. He lived it. Turner’s journey from outspoken media titan to eco-capitalist began the way it does for so many of us, with a few recreational retreats, a fly rod, and the hope of chasing elk and birds. “But the more that you become familiar with the land at river level, and contemplate all of the things that go into creating a healthy trout stream, your thinking naturally expands,” Turner reflected. “Then it’s your choice to act on it, or not.” He acted on it — decisively, generously, and at a scale few private citizens have ever matched. TRCP extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the countless individuals and communities who were inspired by his example and commitment to conservation. Menhaden Management Board of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission votes to form a work group to revise a path for management changes going forward, in lieu of approving an existing plan document for public comment. In another delay for Chesapeake Bay menhaden conservation, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s (ASMFC) Menhaden Management Board deferred advancing an addendum to revise Chesapeake Bay menhaden management at their May 5 meeting. The Board had been widely expected to advance the addendum, which offers a range of possible management changes, into a public comment period, but instead elected to merely form a work group to revise the document further.
