The desert tortoises need you! 🐢 Although the non-releasable desert tortoises in our care are still brumating, they’ll soon be waking up and every one of them will need a forever home. Could that be YOU?  Learn how to adopt a desert tortoise, or donate to their care, at the link in our bio under WAYS TO HELP WILDLIFE.

The California condor is one of North America's most iconic birds, and today on #EndangeredSpeciesDay, we're celebrating its comeback! These magnificent birds have soared back from the brink, but lead poisoning still threatens their future. Reducing lead in the field is key, and AZGFD is sending hunters drawn for deer, bighorn sheep and bison in Units 12A or 12B on the Kaibab Plateau a voucher for lead-free ammo to do just that. Wear it, Arizona! 💦🚤 With Memorial Day getting closer, we’re urging everyone to wear a life jacket when on the water, and here’s why: According to the latest U.S. Coast Guard statistics, in cases where the cause of death has been determined, 87 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were NOT wearing a life jacket. This is why AZGFD will be providing life jacket exchanges throughout the state. Those who have an old, worn out, or improperly fitting life jacket will be able to exchange it for a new one, free of charge (while supplies last). Every desert tortoise in these rows is looking for a forever home. 💚 These captive desert tortoises were surrendered to us and cannot be released into the wild because they may pose health risks to Arizona’s native tortoise populations. Want to help? Apply to adopt your own or donate to their care by going to the link in our bio and looking under WAYS TO HELP WILDLIFE.

Happy World Migratory Bird Day! 🌎 🐦 We're celebrating with migration stories from our own backyard. A marbled godwit traveled roughly 1,000 miles from Southern Alberta, Canada, down to the Lower Colorado River near Planet Ranch in Arizona, and a common poorwill trekked about 700 miles from Missoula, Mont., to the Kingman, Ariz., area. Truly remarkable! How do we know? Meet Motus, an international network using radio telemetry to track birds, bats and insects with small transmitters. The network is now expanding into Arizona (with 26 stations), Mexico and Central America, and the more it grows, the more incredible stories like these we'll be able to tell.
