Secret Maps at the British Library tells stories from over a 100 objects and artefacts about how information is created, concealed, disseminated and controlled, via mapping. This exhibition offers an essential lens through which to reconsider the lines (and grids!) that shape our world. This exhibition isn’t just about the maps that reveal or keep secrets, it’s about how those secrets shape our shared and private lives. It’s a reminder that every map is as much about power, memory, and identity as about topography or direction. There are some lovely interactive elements too; visitors can peer through secret spy holes, lock in their phone on a screen that tell them exactly how those naughty old tech-lords are mapping and harvesting our data and best of all find Wally in an original drawing from the children’s book-there is even a sneak peak to help you along. It closes on 18th January 2026 🥹 #maps #secrets #britishlibrary #graphicdesign #environmentalgraphics

Hurrah! Station Hall @nationalrailwaymuseum is open! The exhibition space showcases more than 200 years of railway history. Items on display include station signage and the first on-train toilets, plus testimonies from railway workers and passengers. New to the exhibition is a WHSmith bookstall from 1921 and a passimeter (or ticket kiosk) from Winchmore Hill station.   Working with @drinkalldean and @recordlighting our brief was to celebrate the station and the universal stories it can shine light on. We were given access to the museums immense image and object archive, in particular the photographs by Howard Grey depicting Windrush migrants freshly arrived in the UK as they set out on train journeys from Waterloo Station across the country.    Our themes covered travel, tourism, royalty and rail freight. Each of these themes had a central content hub applied to bespoke designed furniture that allowed the visitor to delve into the narrative. #nrm #york #nationalrailwaymuseum #50yearsold #SMG #rail #vehicles #trains #environmental #graphic #design #studiohb

Hara Clark and studio HB were commissioned by Perth Art Gallery to create a permanent exhibition to house the collection that celebrates the life and creative partnership of the Scottish colourist John Duncan Fergusson and his partner Margaret Morris, the pioneering dancer. John Duncan Fergusson was the most internationally recognised artist of the group known as The Scottish Colourists. Fergusson, who spent much of his life split between France and London, was highly influenced by the French modern movements of the early twentieth century. Margaret Morris was best known for her achievements as a pioneering dancer and choreographer, but she was also a teacher, physiotherapist, author and talented artist. Our approach was in keeping with Fergusson’s fauvism style and we used pure, pigment heavy colours that flooded bold contours. These oversized curved silhouettes created solid areas for the works to hang against so his outspoken ringing colours pop. The curves and rhythmic shapes also created movement-mirroring Morris’s choreography and her system of movement notation. To punctuate the space and denote the chronological sections five large scale matt gold panels were printed with photography taken from the archive. We were delighted to hear this week that the felled tree that stood on Sycamore gap for around 200 years has been given a second life and it is showing multiple seedlings emerging from the salvaged parts of the tree at its specialist conservation centre. The sycamore stood on Hadrian’s wall not far from where our permanent exhibition in Corbridge. The wall stretches from the gap into the English Heritage site and whilst there are lots of architectural remains to walk around there, it is the centre that holds a display of the largest of Hadrian’s Wall’s collections. An excavation here in 1964 found one of the most significant historical findings; a Roman soldier’s belongings including armour, tools, weaponry, wax writing tablets and papyrus-it is essentially a Roman time capsule! This ‘Corbridge Hoard’ is the star of the collection-a stunningly preserved piece of history. Sculptural materials and large heavy stones are mounted on long plinths in three colour coded zones, with nearly 800 showcased objects mounted onto white acrylic inserts. A thirteen meter timeline that stretches the entire length of the centre, layering civilian information about objects, materials and everyday life of this bustling Roman town. This part of the world holds a special place in our northern hearts 🤍and think it is brilliant that scientists have been able to bring us this direct connection and refreshed hope by creating a legacy for this much loved tree. We’ll be keeping everything crossed that these plants 🌱 continue to grow stronger 🌳💚. We just wanted to give @aishlingdraws a super big shout out for a true illustration-led collaboration for the #hellobrain exhibition @thefranciscrickinstitute she was commissioned to work across the environmental graphics as well as the printed ephemera. Her style and line work adapted to the various briefs for the variety of different graphics we needed to communicate often complex and difficult content: from diagrammatic lab grown neurons, ‘real’ scientists, hundreds of call to action icons cards and wonderfully characterful animal cut outs. We were able to have multiple perspectives of the exhibition with project architects @galmstrup_architects and interpretation and science advisor @hollyedwards83 @scientiascripta With @studiohb_graphics helping with the graphic elements such as typography colour, texture and materials to pull all these elements together to work harmoniously with the final exhibition design. We think that @aishlingdraws and her approach to the project are a product of true interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation between similarly minded people. Nice one Ash! ✏️🧠 #illustration #graphics #design #interpretation #environmentalgraphicdesign #collaboration #brain

Hello Brain! 🧠 You shape my world, my world shapes you.

Hello Brain! Opened on Saturday @franciscrickinstitute and explores the brain’s ‘connectome’: how trillions of connections between billions of cells shape our thoughts, behaviours and experiences. Crick scientists are aiming to understand how these connections impact how different species, including humans, interact with each other and the world.

With architects @galmstrup_architects we created a sensory journey from the early beginnings of neuroscience (the beautiful hand-drawn illustrations by the father of neuroscience-Santiago Ramón y Cajal) to recent discoveries and technological progress. A wall of open display cases explore key themes such as sleep, pregnancy, old age and perception. We worked closely with the illustrator @aishlingdraws in both print and environmental graphics to bring a layer of playfulness and approachability to depicting some of the more complex representations of how the Crick scientists are working on such themes from hallucinations to lab-grown neurons (the capybara gives great side-eye!) To increase access to Hello Brain! resources such as large print, braille and easy-read materials have been provided within the exhibition as well as tactile displays. @thefranciscrickinstitute #3D #architect @galmstrup_architects #environmentalgraphics @studiohb_graphics #lighting @dhadesigns #contractor @mer_services_ltd #AV @chocolatefilms #illustration @aishlingdraws #marketing @sadiemaystudio Image 1: Fiona Hanson All others by @studiohb_graphics #hellobrain #science #graphics #design #museum #london #environmentalgraphics #graphicdesign #3d #exhibition #exhibitiondesign #designers #museumdesign

It’s #throwbackthursday last year we worked on an exhibition for the Postal Museum that was created for the much anticipated image release of the new stamp featuring King Charles III. Our concept was of transition - a new beginning, from one monarch to another and from Queen to King. The colour shift overall was from red to blue suggested a sunset or sunrise with a central tone of purple that matched the colour of the new stamp.    We developed the visual identity to complement the gradient, bringing in the proportions of the ‘Tyrian Plum’ 2d stamp which our star object. Creating a generic crown motif that spoke to all the reigning monarchs and flutted edge line was seen on both the identity and as part the environmental graphic detailing. This was used through out the Postal Museums online marketing collateral.    A spine wall used printed flag mesh screens and lighting effects to create a dramatic space divider. It also allowed us to house playful interactives that the younger visitor could connect with.  #leaddesigner @theharaclark #environmentalgraphics @studiohb_graphics #throuwbackthursday #graphics #design #museum #london #environmentalgraphics #graphicdesign #3d #exhibition #exhibitiondesign #designers #museumdesign

Don’t feel too 🔵blue just because today is 🔵Blue Monday. Here’s the beautiful 🔵blue gallery we designed the graphics for The Ancient Middle East permanent gallery @ashmoleanmuseum with lead designers @thedesignkollektiv The Ancient Middle East Gallery explores some of the most important developments in human history. By 9000 BC village communities at places like Jericho were constructing their homes from some of the first mud bricks. While long distance trade between Mesopotamia, Iran and the Indus Valley (modern Pakistan) is revealed by finds from Kish, a truly international age emerged in the period 2000-1000 BC. We commissioned @lyndonhayes to create the maps and settlement visuals-steering carefully away from the traditional way of visualising heritage reconstructions and Lyndon, as ever, colour led his drawings, adding energy with spontaneous brush marks and textures adding to the sense of movement and atmosphere. 3D: @thedesignkollektiv Graphic design @studiohb_graphics Illustration: @lyndonhayes #museumdesign #bluemonday #ashmolean #oxford #gallery #illustration #graphics #design #museum #environmentalgraphics #graphicdesign #3d #exhibition #exhibitiondesign #designer

Today marks the birthdate of Ernest H. Shepard, the successful British illustrator and painter best known for his illustrations for The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne. His work, often created through a combination of watercolour and pen-and-ink, is characterised by light washes of colour and stunning graphic, black outlines. We were asked by the design studio @vamuseum to create the graphics for Winnie the Pooh: Exploring a Classic and highlight the creative collaboration of A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard. Working with theatre designer @tom.piper24 and @rfkarchitects the exhibition unfolded like a pop-up book, with secret slides and unexpected child-sized doors appearing alongside the display cases. Concrete poetry hung from mobiles. Each room was a stunning interpretation of Shepard's illustrations, complete with storytelling trees and a picnic drawing table. Working @londonbookarts to make the captions from traditional book binding board and cloth gave the labels texture and presence amongst the larger than life pencil lined story telling trees. The exhibition travelled to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Bunkamura Museum of Art, Tokyo. 3D design @rfkarchitects and @tom.piper24 Graphic design @studiohb_graphics Lighting @studiozna AV @newangle_productions Bespoke graphics @londonbookarts Photography 📸 @sarahdeanephotographic #winniethepooh #ehshepard #illustrator #birthday #V&A #graphics #design #museum #london #environmentalgraphics #graphicdesign #3d #exhibition #exhibitiondesign #designers #museumdesign
