Today is Release day!!! Thrilled to announce the remix of River Flowing by my dear friend, the legendary DJ, producer and remixer @sir_raymond_mang . We met ten years ago on a tropical island in Brazil at @marehmusic and have shared many special moments together since, with him often performing at our @neon.in.nature parties. So many of my most special dance floor moments with friends have been soundtracked by his stunning DJ sets or his releases and his ability to bring warmth, soul and deep groove to a record is something I’ve admired for years. It’s such an honour for him to wrap his formidable musical talents around my music. For those new to Ray Mang, he’s been shaping dance floors since the ’90s. He has released music on iconic labels like R&S and Eskimo, founded Mangled Records, and has remixed everyone from Gorillaz, Friendly Fires and Bryan Ferry to Shirley Bassey and Beck. One of the true pioneers of Balearic culture, his sound bridges disco, house, Balearic and soul in a way that’s timeless and deeply musical. The artwork for this track was also developed through the energy and creative talents of three other dear friends. @maiharamarjorie photographed @yawanawapekuti fishing on the Gregório river beside the Yawanawá Matrinxa aldeia in the Amazon where the song was written and @studioelastik then applied his artistic magic to take the photograph to a mystical dimension, perhaps one that is inhabited by the ancestral spirits of that region. Creating art with friends is truly one of life’s great treasures and I can’t wait for you to hear this track. Music and songwriting has always been my secret way of making sense of this epic, sacred, brutal, and beautiful journey of life. My way of processing the feelings we experience - and the experiences themselves - as we navigate forwards each day, trying to know the unknowable and make sense of it all. It’s how my inner world connects with the outer world and how I join the dots. My safe space and my sanity check. It’s how I lose myself in the moment and find stillness in the chaos. Scribbling notes that become songs has been my way of gripping the wall at the moments of life’s steepest ascents - distilling emotions into words and melodies. The fullest reflections, stories, and moments of my journey have found their way, sometimes encoded, sometimes in full colour, into twelve songs. I hope some of them speak to you. This record wouldn’t exist without so many brilliant collaborators; all of the incredible musicians who performed on the album @timwthornton , @georgiobaldinio , @freyasouter_ , @davidrobertgriffiths , Matthew and Karin. So excited to announce the release of the remix of Bahia by Salvador trap artist @principetrevo . His heart and connection to the Bahia community and its ancestral realities is as strong as his raw musical talent. He addresses the inequality and struggle within Brazils urban peripheries and dreams of a brighter future through music and culture. Trevo rewrote sections of the song in Portuguese adding his own perspective in terms of what Bahia means to him. Then he took the song back to the studio in Salvador where he recorded local musicians… “My version of ‘Bahia’ comes from a local perspective. The next step on our adventure in Bahia. One of the artists who has been a huge inspiration for me as a songwriter has been @finkmusic . He has that rare ability to truly reach people and move them through his music. We went to Brazil together in 2019 and anyone who caught his show at MECA @inhotim will remember that feeling and the energy he created. I’m so excited to announce his remix of Bahia, which will be released on Friday. He strips things right back, adding vocals and revealing a deep melancholy lying just beneath the surface that only he could feel. My new song, Dance Alone is out today!!! This single explores the importance of going inwards to heal and the courage it takes to do that. It’s also a song about love and loss.
