💎 PHONICA MIX SERIES 143: AUNTIE FLO (LINK IN BIO) 💎 Few artists have navigated the intersections of club music, global rhythm and deep listening with the consistency and curiosity of Auntie Flo. Emerging from the fertile Glasgow scene and closely tied to institutions like Sub Club, his sets and productions have long blurred the lines between percussive club functionality and transportive, almost ritualistic sound design. Releases such as Radio Highlife and his ongoing output via his own imprint A State Of Flo have cemented a reputation for weaving Afro-diasporic influences with electronic music’s more exploratory edges, while appearances at spaces like Fabric and Panorama Bar underline his fluency across both intimate and heavyweight dancefloors. Whether playing sunrise sets in the Arctic Circle or all-night sessions back home, there’s a through-line in Auntie Flo’s work: rhythm as a shared language, patiently unfolded. For his Phonica Records mix, that ethos comes into sharp focus. Drawing from both fresh discoveries and personal archive, the set folds in three unreleased productions—including a forthcoming collaboration with Tony Morris—while echoing the deeper, more percussive territories he’s been exploring in recent club sets. Shaped loosely by a recent Berlin performance, it moves with a steady, hypnotic pulse: vibey, fluid, and quietly expansive. Like much of his work, it’s less about peaks and more about immersion—a snapshot of where Auntie Flo sits right now, as a selector and producer still driven by the joy of digging, storytelling, and sound system communion. @auntie._.flo

ROMAN FLÜGEL - Tippex In My Eye (ft PYTKO) (PHANTASY SOUND) ‘Tippex in My Eye’, Roman FlĂŒgel’s third single with Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound, nonetheless charts exciting new territory for the prolific German producer, finding him in collaboration with London-based vocalist and songwriter, PYTKO. Already established as a member of Phantasy’s creative family following her cultishly received 2022 debut LP ‘The Way We Blush’, PYTKO searching, surrealist lyrics and performance provide perfect synthesis for FlĂŒgel’s first ever vocal collaboration. Somewhere between digital dub and avant garde shades of electro-pop, ‘Tippex in My Eye’ slowly works a strange and spacious magic, meditating on bassweight while moving ever-forward with sparse piano and distinctly Flugelesque synthesis. Throughout, PYTKO’s enigmatic vocals intertwine with this ambitious arrangement, acting as an incantation for a brief but refreshingly strange journey. Each of these elements are repurposed with hypnotic, psychedelic impact on an alternate ‘Dance Mix’. Immediately tapping into FlĂŒgel’s well-established nous for turning minimalism into euphoria, PYTKO herself becomes a guiding force for the dancefloor, as the track builds thrillingly toward a cosmic breakdown and dramatic release. Roman FlĂŒgel’s ‘Tippex in My Eye (ft. PYTKO)’ will be released on Phantasy on May 15th 2026, available on limited-edition vinyl and streaming. @roman_fluegel @juliapytko @phantasysound

&CO. - Staycation (THE QUIET VILLAGE) &Co. debut on A Quiet Village. The US-based trio drop the third release on Quiet Village’s eponymous imprint March 20th. &Co. Is a project from multi-hyphenate and Bianca Chandon founder, Alex Olson, pianist, composer and producer Alberto Bof (known for his work on ¼Oscar ¼Bafta ¼Golden Globe and ¼Grammy award winning ’A Star is Born’) and DJ/fashion luminary, Paul Takahashi. The trio’s second release, ‘Staycation’ follows 2015’s ‘Best of Friends’, and sees these rare talents create a two-tracker that explores a uniquely evocative, cinematic and dubby Balearic aesthetic. ‘Staycation began as a follow-up to the first EP, Best Friends. As a result, ‘Staycation’ came together in fragments. The first track was built over a handful of short studio sessions, each only about an hour long, driven by brainstorming and reworking ideas. With Alex away, Alberto and I continued refining the piece in Los Angeles, sharing updates for Alex’s approval until it was completed. The track remained unmastered and was quietly circulated to a small circle as a promotional piece. The second track, “Lean Like a Cello,” was initially conceptualized together. However, with Alex now based in New York and less available, we completed the arrangement in Los Angeles, sending versions back and forth for Alex’s input and feedback. Nearly a decade later, the idea resurfaced, and the recordings were finally mastered and released. A friend, Justin Van Der Volgen, handled the mastering. What began as a plan to give the tracks away as a promo evolved when Justin encouraged the group to shop the release. With help from Eric Duncan of Rub N Tug, the music reached Matt (Edwards, aka Radio Slave/ 1/2 of Quiet Village). @quietvillageofc @olsonstuff @alberto_bof @radioslaveofc @joelrmartin74

PERSIAN - Persian Meets Miles J Paralysis (MYSTICISMS) Presenting the 2nd in the series of Persian remix EPs, following the bumping Dub House remakes from Picasso, the label is joined by Yorkshire’s own young electronic folklore master, a fast-rising name, Miles J Paralysis. Whereas Picasso took the first Dubplate ‘Space Within Art’, here Miles J delves in to the follow up ‘Smoke Dub’, turning out a selection of dubwise cuts that build on the dark electronics of his excellent debut releases for his Crying Outcast label. Yorkshire born and based, with a love for the Moors, as well as the teachings of lore, magick and mysticism, this young producer has been emersed in music since a young age, with a penchant of Dub, Hip Hop and Reggae. Starting with Survival Dub, the anthemic Ragga Dub original morphs into 2 parts, first heading down Paralysis’s alley of dark and brooding production marrying perfect touches of the vocal samples, before the amen break builds the track to the light. Smoke Mari follows, the languid Digibreaks chugger, utilizing Linval Thompson’s iconic vocals, now comes as a deep meditative Dub excursion. Stripped back to a raw essence, the vocals whirl, while hypnotic keys and dub bass complete the psychedelic mosaic. There Is No Love is modern dub style, off beat syncopation, reverb, tape delays and heavy vocal sampling all in the mix. The breakbeats of the original are jettisoned for a Dub (Drug) Chug, the atmospherics seeking the dark corners. “These are the last days; can’t you see the sunshine
” Zatoichi’s Troubles ends the pack, the trip hop, Depth Charge dub bass cut transforms at the mixing desk of Miles J in to Dub Techno territory, haunting, melodic. Miles J’s love of the deeper side of electronic music expanded. Club music but not produced for clubs. Made for the discerning. @milesjparalysis @piersharrison @emotional_recordings

SILVER APPLES / ANDREW WEATHERALL - Oscillations Studio Mix / The Edge of Wonder (Andrew Weatherall Remix) (SILVER APPLES FOUNDATION) This reissue marks the creation of Silver Apples Foundation, which is both a non profit organisation and new imprint whose mission is to honour the legacy wishes of Simeon Coxe to preserve the memory of Silver Apples by promoting electronic music and the setting up of an electronic music scholarship fund. This release will be followed later in the year with the long awaited Silver Apples biography, ‘Electronic Evocations’, by music journalist and writer Kris Needs. This version of Oscillations was the last ever recording by Simeon at his ChickenCoop studio in Fairhope Alabama in 2019 and captures how he liked to play it live. Backed with the late Andrew Weatherall’s remix of The Edge of Wonder, taken from Silver Apples last ever album Clinging to a Dream. The sleeve art features an Oscillator drawn by Simeon in 2014, while the back cover uses the original Silver Apples logo. But to make this release extra special it comes with a Silver Apples slipmat, featuring the iconic Apples logo.

TERRY FRANCIS - Juice EP (RHYTHM BY NATURE) Rhythm By Nature stands for creative independence and careful curation, with each release guided by feel rather than formula. This time, the label welcomes a cornerstone of UK underground culture: Terry Francis. A defining figure of the Wiggle movement, Francis helped shape a stripped-back, groove-led language that continues to influence minimal and tech-house, always rooted in authenticity, balance, and long-term musical value. The EP unfolds through three cuts that carry this ethos with quiet authority. “You” opens in deep mode, driven by rolling, chugging basslines, processed vocal snippets, and warm pads that fill the space with steady motion, equally suited to early hours or deep-night moments. On “Summer Night” Francis turns up the pressure with a slightly acid-tinged tech-house cut full of energy, echoed effects, and wide atmospheric pads pushing the track into peak-time territory. Closing the record, SaPu reshapes “Summer Night” with a hypnotic remix built on reduced, precise drums and a minimal yet full-bodied framework, where rolling rhythms carry layers of vocal echoes and melodic fragments that give the track a warm, classy, almost magical glow. With this release, Rhythm By Nature reaffirms its commitment to artists who shape sound through restraint, groove, and intention, where consistency means quality rather than repetition, and club music is treated as a craft rather than a product. @terryfrancis_dj @rhythmbynature_records
