FAITH FANZINE : FANZINE FAN ISSUE ONE Another day another series, what can you do. The first issue of fanzine fan comes courtesy of @faithfanzine as the new Spring edition drops with the right hon. @davidramjamrodigan on the cover. BLEEP BASICS VOL.ONE Celebrating the first bleep track from @nightmaresonwax in 35 years produced in collaboration with @marlonlopezholden - Patang on @2020vision_recordings . We took to the streets of Hyde Park in Leeds to uncover the roots of the short lived scene that brought dub reggae bass to house & techno. BLEEP BASICS started as a fun way to tell the story of the instigators behind the sound of bleep, but it soon turned into a series we’ll be dropping in short parts leading to a full feature. Nightmares on Wax & Marlon Lopez - Patang N.O.W @nightmaresonwax first ever record came out on a white label originally titled Nights On Wax on Poverty Records in 1989. Alongside Let It Roll on the A side was a jam called Dextrous which caught the ears of a new record label being set up in Sheffield called @warprecords . Dextrous became a hit record not only in the underground clubs but on the radio airwaves, spending 6 weeks on the UK Singles Chart - an extraordinary feat given it was simply an instrumental rhythm track composed of bleeps & bass made in a bedroom studio. Alongside: The Forgemasters - Track with No Name, Sweet Exorcist - Testone, LFO - LFO, Ital Rockers - Itals Anthem & Ability II - Pressure Dub the emergent scene became known as Bleep but disappeared after just a handful of records as the artists largely returned to their roots in dub & hip hop, with N.O.W going on to produce Smokers Delight, as we all know. Now, Nightmares on Wax return with Patang - their first Bleep record in 35 years - produced in collaboration with @marlonlopezholden on @2020vision_recordings . Once again the record came out on white label first and was picked up by a Yorkshire based record label. Now is the time to re-visit the exciting world of bleep & bass as once again the roots of dub cross paths with house & techno. Completed on the flip side with Cancel Dat! the record also features two unreleased dubs courtesy of @ralph2020vision who pays homage to another house hero @jamieprinciple with the Jam 4 Jamie. bleep is back - but could be just a brief moment in time once again… #bleep #bass #underground

BLAZE x 20/20 VISION Our favourite 20/20 remixes have to be the trilogy of mixes we made for New Jersey’s Blaze, who are also one of my favourite house music bands of all time. We recorded Lovelee Dae first for playhouse records, as Heiko & Ata @atamacias and Jorn & @roman_fluegel were very early 20/20 supporters. Lovelee Dae was well received so they invited us back to take a turn on Funky People. Both tracks were then picked up by London based Slip n Slide with thanks to @seamushaji who completed the remix hat trick with Wishing You Were Here. Back then we always made the full remix but also ran off dubs and an acappella as standard but for some reason there was no dub of Lovelee Dae which always seemed like an omission to me - so I made one. I always liked our Funky People remix but felt we mixed the kick drum too big and it was too long, so fixed the kick and did an edit. While over on Wishing You Were Here @finlowcarl wanted to have a crack at a brand new random factor remix, so he did that too, rounding it all off with an edit of the Transvision dub that was only released on a Test Pressing double pack for Slip n Slide 100. So we ended up with a four track EP of unreleased Blaze Dubs n Edits which we sent to @simondawso who jumped on it. We both love this record and feels like the perfect full circle moment to pay our respects to @joshmilan6969 & @therealkevinhedge2 aka Blaze Blaze - 20/20 Vision Dubs n Edits A1. MANCHESTER - EASTERN BLOC RECORD STORE LOVE VOL.2 Continuing the Record Store Love series I visited a store close to my heart - Eastern Bloc in Manchester. I travelled over most Saturdays back in the days when it was on Oldham Street and my production partner in Wulf n Bear @huggym00n worked behind the decks dealing out the records like cards. First ones in, last ones out I love my 9-5, as long as it’s 9pm-5am… Leaving 17 Little Portland Street with @gabski___ after another memorable session with @heidilawden all night in The Studio. A perfect guest for our @openlabradio Balearic Electric residency at the venue. You always know a DJ is having fun if they’re able to drop their favourite records and Heidi did just that… Now into our 4th year we are one of the longest running residencies at the club but each & every time I step out at 5am, onto that little street in the heart of London’s West End, I feel order has been returned to my universe. It’s such a pleasure to hear your records on that Martion sound system. And of course, getting down with the gang of dancers in that beautiful intimate space. Tonka at The Zap in Brighton... Might have been the last time I was on the same dance-floor as @heidilawden but here we are a lifetime (or two) later and playing together all night long in London: Saturday April 25th at 17 Little Portland Street for @openlabradio Balearic Electric.
