Four lots. Four chances to build something that couldn’t exist anywhere else. Calgary is quietly becoming one of the best cities in the world to live. And the lots that make you feel that most, the ones on the nicest streets, with the best light and the deepest connection to the river valley, those don’t come back once they’re gone. @spencerstupkarealtor walks you through Riverdale and Rideau. What it feels like to live there, what the community is, what it means to be part of it. Matthew (@archhouse ) looks at each site through the eyes of a designer. What the land is telling you. What the light is doing. What a home here could become if you really listened to the site. Watch the short. visit www.elbowriverlots.ca Cinematography captured by @imbrycebaker

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Tuesday to celebrate the official premiere of @thespacewecreate.ca , graciously hosted by @arefabca . While the film has already travelled both nationally and internationally with selections at the 2025 Santiago Mountain Films Festival, the 2026 Stratford Winter Film Festival, and the 2026 International Festival of Winter Cinema, this screening marked something different. As the city we call home, and a short drive away from Banff, Calgary felt like the right place to gather and share this story more intentionally, surrounded by the community that shaped it. At its core, The Space We Create remains a reflection on care, persistence, and what it takes to realize housing in places where it matters most. The discussions that emerged that evening reinforced just how urgent and shared these questions are. Many thanks to @arefabca . Their support made both this documentary and the event possible. By investing in housing and community projects across Alberta, the Foundation helps shape a more thoughtful and inclusive built environment. Learn more at aref.ab.ca. Next stop: Fernie, BC, on April 10th. Join us for a screening hosted by @ferniechamber with support from the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies. Free tickets can be found in our bio, @studio_north ! Many thanks to our collaborators at @lolaarchitecture , as well as @banfftown , the Banff Housing Corporation, @parks.canada , the residents of the Aster, and everyone involved in bringing both The Aster and The Space We Create to life. The investment was made. The work is done. Now six riverfront lots along the Elbow River in Roxboro are now on MLS. This spring, the City of Calgary is voting to adopt updated flood maps reflecting years of coordinated work by the City and Alberta Infrastructure. These maps are the proof that it worked. For these six parcels, that means moving out of the Floodway designation and into the Groundwater Flood Fringe. A fundamental shift in how the lots are zoned for construction, designed, and built on. Undeveloped, river-adjacent land in one of Calgary’s most established inner-city neighbourhoods. There is nothing else like this in Calgary right now. Building along Calgary’s river edge is one of the most compelling opportunities in the city. It is also one of the most technically and design-specific undertakings you can take on. Flood zone construction requirements, site constraints, elevation considerations, foundation design, regulatory approvals. It demands a team that has been here before. Arch House has. Sister company to Studio North, we have spent years designing homes along Calgary’s river corridors. We know what the regulations demand, what great design looks like within those constraints, and what you need to understand before you commit. Purchase with Arch House. Design with Studio North. Build with confidence. The buyers who move on opportunities like this are the ones who already understand them. Start that conversation with Arch House. Calgary’s river communities are entering a new phase. This land is part of that story. “The palette is this kind of dappled foliage, series of greens.” -Damon Hayes Couture From the tiles that carry through from the kitchen to the fireplace, to the structural beams that made the renovation possible, greens are a central element of the Slope Reno palette. A green front door greets visitors upon arrival, while a totem in the rear mudroom welcomes the family home time and time again. On a sunny afternoon, sunlight filters through the green perforated screen and into the stairwell, casting shifting patterns that give the space a truly canopy-like quality. Together, the greens feel layered yet cohesive, bringing a sense of calm to the interior and grounding the home in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The Boho House in Varsity is one of a kind. Studio North took a mid-century split level and gave it a clear identity. A vaulted, curved ceiling. Custom rattan millwork. A fireplace reinterpreted rather than replaced. Each decision connects to the next, so the whole house feels intentional. The materials reinforce it. Douglas fir, white oak, and brass bring warmth and depth, used in a way that lets you notice the craft behind them. Outside, the setting completes it. A full lot in an established neighbourhood, mature trees, and a backyard that took decades to become what it is today. Yards like this aren’t built. They’re grown. Whoever lives here lives in something the city has exactly one of. This listing is coming soon. Reach out to learn more. Join us on March 31 for a special screening and conversation about housing affordability in Alberta. The evening features a screening of @studio_north “The Space We Create” documentary, a film that chronicles the story of The Aster — a 33-home attainable housing development led by @banfftown designed to expand homeownership in one of Canada’s most constrained housing markets. Following the screening, we’ll hear insights from @sait ‘s Affordable Housing Modelling and Analysis research examining @attainablehomes model and bring together a panel of experts to explore what these two made-in-Alberta projects can teach us about addressing housing affordability challenges in Calgary and across Alberta. Both projects were supported by the Alberta Real Estate Foundation.

As suggested by its name, the Slope Reno brings the beauty and rawness of the mountains back to the city. The clients love spending their weekends on various adventures in the mountains, whether that’s hiking, biking, or skiing down the slopes. We brought that home. From spatial experiences to material qualities, the essence of the Canadian Rocky Mountains is imbued throughout the project. Curving geometry references trails, rock edges, and worn paths, rather than ornament. We also took inspiration from the forest understories and alpine landscapes in choosing the material palette, settling on muted greens that harmonize the warmth of wood with the coolness of stone. At the heart of the home, the kitchen millwork is conceived to read as a tree, guiding movement towards the more private quarters. Through the renovation, the house has become a continuation of the landscapes this family returns to again and again.
