Jan 10th 5-8 pm The Chicken is Ready to Eat, a solo show of @cccstiver at @tsa_ny ———————————————————————— Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is thrilled to present The Chicken is Ready to Eat, a solo exhibition of works by Christine Stiver, curated by Dominic Terlizzi. This exhibition gathers Stiver’s hybrid sculptural approaches in an exhibition that transforms the gallery into a coop-like environment. Both the sculptures and installation embrace plurality and visual ambiguity. Playfully, the show’s title presents a structural dilemma that aligns with Stiver’s approach in the studio. The phrase “The chicken is ready to eat,” presents multiple interpretations in which it is unclear who is eating who and who is ready for what. Happy to share that @carloscharlieperez will be opening a solo exhibition @tsa_ny 🐯 ———————————— Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is thrilled to present a solo exhibition by Carlos Charlie Perez @carloscharlieperez titled “It’s fun to pretend to be other people” curated by Dominic Terlizzi @dominicterlizzi . Perez appropriates this Bruce Willis quote to aptly describe what he refers to as “costume paintings.” Sometimes people wish they were somebody else, even if temporarily. Using the semiotics of film to construct multi-framed paintings, Carlos Perez’s work often employs lighting and narrative constructions derived from the moving image. Mark your calendars and join us! A visit to @_fernandopintado studio with @cccstiver . This visit was full of screen prints on pattern fabrics and muslin as well as prints on envelopes from Fedex, Amazon, and reflective pouches. The printed imagery builds a static backdrop for Pintado’s collage characters like grapes, eggs, flowers, and clouds. Printed images include insects, JFK, raccoons, falling figures, and clocks. These works have a paint scribed title that feels like named indexing of poetic artifacts. Some works are wall based and other hinged like books free standing on the floor. Many works have the scale of posters and some works have UV reflective paints. Fernando mentioned the works act like chewing gum unable to become liquid or solid. #fernandopintato #studiovisit #stcharlesprojects

Studio visit with @carloscharlieperez full of fibers and paint playing with cinematic references and smoke and mirrors effects. I am really enjoying many parts of Carlos’ current practice that is uniquely positioned in impulses with garments, cinema, and painting. We discussed experiences in the fashion world, music world, and art world, along with early days in Florida. This visit allowed us to finally catch up on studio works many years after overlapping together at Cooper in the early 2000s. A visit with @dedume at his LIC studio to view recent paintings and ceramics. We found bold nature oriented imagery with some unique materials like sourdough on the surface. Glass covered ceramics and found objects in the mix.
