In a slight departure I’ve been painting these two girls over and over again, cropped from a seated kindergarten portrait in 1927. My father died this year and I’ve been scanning his rescued family photos (to make sense of them) to make into a book. They are incredible otherworldly photos with tons of writing on the backs of them - some in rhyming verse. Of course I’ve become freshly obsessed with trying to find a photo of his sister who was tragically killed while they were running and hiding and i found these two sisters in the memorial book for his town, Dereczyn. They are not her but i love the way they lean into one another theyre like one organ. The photo is better than any of this but I like to focus on them and think about them, and him. I notice now it’s similar to my father and his brother touching ears in that other photo. ❤️

We are excited to present the last work of Tzirel Kaminetzky picked by our guest curator Marie Anine Møller 🌱 A vinyl window decal makes a promise to you; “Drawings / Paintings” and so you make good on it. You say mise-en-scène to yourself and think better written than said. But its a perfect scene to turn toward your phone and you keep returning to the photo and the poetry of it later on when you print it a few times on 8.5x11 printer paper. The hue-darkening trees, metal cabinet, the red table. An acrylic business card holder, too. You’re in Van Gogh’s Amsterdam this day and your family is home where now or later Iris is eating toast in the Irises t-shirt you bought her from maybe Gap because you buy the art-historical T-shirts. Time is fleeting and sneaky and these images compress in this way and paint is slow and outside of time and it is possible to make sense of it on 13x9 archival inkjet paper. In the world of artist Tzirel Kaminetzky an unassuming still life might eventually reveal a laptop cord, a radiator or people —uncomposed details that surface slowly. These works, shaped by Kaminetzky’s background in media and her observations as a person moving through daily life, reflect the fragmentation and saturation of visual and personal space in the digital age. We are excited to share the second work by artist Tzirel Kaminetzky selected by guest curator Marie Anine Møller Kaminetzky’s work consists of inkjet prints of personal, everyday subjects layered with oil paint. The painted surface doesn’t explicitly reference the image beneath; it’s drawn from a separate moment or memory. Transparency allows the photograph to emerge gradually, creating a sense of dislocation. We are excited to present the first work of Tzirel Kaminetzky selected by guest curator Marie Anine Møller. Kaminetzky works at the intersection of photography and painting, often transforming printed photographs through layered oil, glazing, and surface interventions. Her practice investigates memory, image permanence, and the instability of visual records. She holds an MFA in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts and a BFA in Fine Arts and Photography from Parsons School of Design, with additional studies in poetry at Columbia University. Prior to her studio practice, she worked as a photo editor and received multiple honors from the National Press Photographers Association. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
