“Great is the wisdom of Ifá,
With it, we unlock life’s greatest mysteries,
Yet for every gift, a greater gift must be returned.
Mighty is the medicine, ancient and powerful,
With it, we heal deep afflictions,
But in exchange, we must offer in equal spirit.”
This Yoruba mantra seeks to express the inexpressible.
The sacred and mysterious relationship between the separate human Self and the oneness of the entirety of creation.
Life is itself a gift. And yet it is what we choose to do with that gift that shapes our very experience of it.
Is it received in gratitude? Can we soften into to the experiences that come as medicine for the soul - both sweet and bitter? Can dedication to growth into one’s own potential be in itself an offering back to creation?
‘Ifanla’ is not on the upcoming album but it perfectly encapsulates the spirit in which the album was born.
An offering backwards in time to my ancestors. Forwards in time to my children’s children and beyond. All the way through to the ever-expanding Universe - both within and without.
