At my parents recently and picked up the tape masters from my first album back in 2012!. A mix of field recordings, meditative stoner synth jams, all a bit loopy & wonky at times. I was living and working at a local studio at the time, where most of this was written and recorded. Was down an old track, surrounded by fields. Really liked the Amek board there.
Live session @bigjellystudios to start this week. Sixteen channels of synths/drum machines with live grand and upright pianos. Stereo Omni microphones capturing the room.
Here we go! Drawing the 1st of 3 winners for @squarehead_studio completion to win a day recording. The winner is @nick.youthsector

One of my last sessions before Xmas was recording an album of traditional English folk songs.
Voice and acoustic so ran with fiqure 8 patterns utilising the nulls of each microphone. It’s pretty amazing how much isolation you get. Quick shoot out at the start to find the best vocal mic. AEA R84, U87 & Sony were the contenders. The Sony won with R84 close second. Acoustic was an older AKG 414 which I Iove with a second microphone (km184) for a bit more sparkle/detail.
Nice relaxed session, 3/4 takes per song.
Love mixing on the API. This is from a recent session finishing three songs, motorik shoegaze vibe. A little bit of grouping in PT but for the most part all tracks stemmed out and all processing done from there. Nice and quick to dial in settings. Main balance was on the desk and automation was a combo of PT and small fader moves.
Recording @dutchcombo_band earlier this year. Tracked live on the API with overdubs, gang vocals out in the studio kitchen. ‘Brave’ is out now and one of three we did over this session. Fun, spitty punk,
Mixed at my lab on the Chilton mixer, really pushed into transformer saturation.

Over the last year or so I’ve been working with @jeffersonhack recording & editing his podcast series ‘Where it’s At’
It’s been great to meet and listen to a diverse range of interesting people from Merlin Sheldrake, Deepak Chopra and to kick off Season 2 Mark Ronson.
Recorded at various homes, hotels & studios I gotta keep the set up low key, so run with my recorder bag and a couple Schoeps. I’ve also been capturing a little more room and space to put a place to where the conversations take place.
Available to listen at all your usual places!
