I made a little photo book that I've been sitting on for a while now. Like trees, this project has grown gently over time. It's a story about the relationship between humans and the natural world, utility infrastructure and trees. Both are vast networks, intertwined yet unable to communicate. I am grateful to @adamswiftlucas / @specific___ideas for designing and publishing the book, and to @mouseinatrap for the beautiful essay you will find inside. Edition of 200 printed by @conveyorstudio . Visit my website and navigate to "books/prints" (link in bio) to order your copy. Books will ship in May. Regretfully, this is available for shipment to addresses in the US only.

A better-late-than-never post: reflecting back on this past year, one of the clear highlights was tabling at another Detroit Art Book Fair @detroitartbookfair . It was such a positive, inspiring weekend of meaningful connection and mutual appreciation around ideas, books, design, art, and community. Great to see friends I hadn’t seen in a while and make new ones. Many thanks to @kikkkkooooo , @m_major , @trinosophes and all the other fine folks who helped make it happen.

Ahead of Printed Matter's LA Art Book Fair and the launch of AutoSummarize, I was honored to be interviewed by Hauser & Wirth's @ursulamagazine where we talked about the genesis of the studio, how publishing and graphic design can support social justice, and why making books matters. The full discussion can be read online on @ursulamagazine 's website. Later, coinciding with the fair, @jsnhff and I joined @juliette.duhe and Venessa Appiah from @anteism_books to discuss the opportunities around creative collaboration with AI technologies as part of "Mornings in the Garden" — a series of public panel talks co-hosted by @hauserwirth and @printedmatterinc , held in the beautiful garden at @hauserwirthlosangeles . 📸 Noé Montes

🚗 𝘕𝘌𝘞 𝘕𝘌𝘞 𝘕𝘌𝘞 𝘊𝘢𝘳 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸 w/ @rferber The first post of a @specific___ideas studio project, NEW NEW NEW Car Show was the second project of NEW NEW NEW, an exploratory, project-based design initiative with @rferber where we make, remake, and curate with a focus on confronting our material impact through various real and speculative solutions. In its most basic sense, it was an art exhibition in and on a car. A 2015 Toyota Prius c served as a traveling advertisement for the exhibition of seven artists and their work as it headed westward from Kansas City, MO from July 1–25, 2022. Each artist was asked to create work for a specific location in or on the car. Through the movement of the car across the country, window graphics pointed to web platforms that allowed the artwork to be shared more widely. The exhibition identity riffed and re-used visual motifs from car culture and auto racing — symmetry, arrows, a medley of wordmarks-as-advertisements, oil spills, GPS routes, and tire tracks. Typeset in Uncut Sans by @kaspernordkvist and various typefaces by @rorykingetc . Exhibition concept and curation by @rferber . Signage: Cut adhesive vinyl Dimensions variable Flyer: 2-color Risograph on 70# text 11 × 17 inches, single-sided print, edition of 50, 2021 Find out more on specificideas.com (link in bio)

📖 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭, 𝘐𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦 17 by @kcaigraphicdesign students aka Not Art . @sprungformal is a literary arts journal published annually in association with the Liberal Arts and Graphic Design Departments at @kcartinstitute . Established in 2005, Sprung Formal is edited and produced by students who pride themselves on combining professional content with professional-grade student work. The content includes a myriad of selected poetry, short fiction, and visual art. . As the primary project in “Interdisciplinary Inquiry,” a course in the Graphic Design department taught by @adamswiftlucas , seven juniors operated as the magazine’s design studio, Not Art. The design students collaborated closely with students in @j_stemps 's Liberal Arts class who served as the editorial team. . The two classes worked on all aspects of the publishing process — from early research, establishing an editorial and artistic vision; to soliciting content from professional writers and artists from around the country; to selecting, organizing, and sequencing the content; to designing, art directing, and managing the printing and production. In addition to the printed publication, the students designed and built a new website, featuring all of the content from Issue 17; and launched a reading release event with live readings, performances, and screenings. . Interior designed by @olivesartmarket , @jadyn.green , and @beccner . Cover designed by @adamldesign with support from @audreylparsell . Website designed by @designharrison and @fairyhelmets . Printed by @soli_printing with paper generously donated by Midland Paper, courtesy of Marie Langdon. . Winner of an Award of Excellence from @communicationarts for the 2023 Typography Annual (professional books category), two A17 awards from @aigakc (student digital and print categories); and was a finalist in the 2023 Flux student design competition from @aigabaltimore . . Available to purchase at specificideas.com (link in bio). All proceeds go towards funding the next issue. . 4-color digital offset 4.25 × 6.875 × .5 inches, 192 pages, perfect bound book, edition of 250, 2022
