Next week at St Denys church, we will hear two brand new pieces for oboe, cello and percussion.
Laura Moody (@msmoodymusic ) talks about the QuantumBirds project and how it ‘inspired her to write a piece which glimpes processes unfolding in realms beyond direct human perception, bringing to mind Joni Mitchell’s observation that “humans are hungry for worlds they cannot share.”’
Meanwhile, Ed Driver (@ed_ftd ) explores ‘incantations from the oboe, which hurl the music into a burst of activity and set a lively dance in motion. Using fragments of Slavonic rainmaking songs’, Ed has written a lively, virtuosic and exciting work.
We’re so excited to hear both these new works – tickets available on Eventbrite, check out the bio.
Please please come along to our next event: Quantum Birds, on Monday 23rd February at St Denys Church, Southampton.
A new music project with exciting commissions from Ed Driver (@ed_ftd ) and Laura Moody (msmoodymusic), exploring themes of quantum entanglement, incantation and ritual.
Anna Durance – Oboe
Nicola Heinrich – Cello
Joley Cragg – Percussion
Plus a short improvised set for piano and electronics from Ben Oliver and Pablo Galaz.

Quantum Birds is supported by The Vaughan Williams Foundation, University of Birmingham and University of Southampton
What a lovely evening @planetsounds . It was a delight to hear exquisite music and performances from @dave.malkin & @louisb.campbell and @moya_sweeney & @archiecmossmusic .
The venue was a perfect retreat from pre-Christmas busy-ness with twinkling lights, mince pies, cosy sofas and a very cool inflatable reindeer bauble. Thanks to musicians and audience for being awesome! 🎄💚🎵
Tonight! Tickets available on the door xx
We can’t wait to welcome these four brilliant musicians to Planet Sounds on Wednesday. See ya there!

A wonderful solo gig from @smallsarah 🎵
Exquisite playing and programming to a wonderfully curious and attentive audience.
We were delighted to host Sarah at the gorgeous community space at Bitterne train station, venue 23 of her cycling tour after more than 4000km! Who knew you could get everything you need to live on a bicycle: tent, sleeping bag, office, clothes, waterproofs, food and most importantly a viola de gamba! ⛺️🚲
1. Chatting to the audience about her travelling tales
2. Got to bring the bike on stage
3. Relaxed post gig and ready to cycle off to the pub!

Really excited to welcome @smallsarah to Southampton for the final date of her tour next week to explore through music what our role is as musicians, artists, actors, writers and audiences in these extremely challenging and disparate times. What is ours to do? How do we navigate the suffering? Is it ok to pursue a career in music in the midst of a poly-crisis?
Sarah has been travelling all around the UK to deliver 23 performances on her bike, connecting with nature and people as she goes, finding the beauty in slow travel. Give her a follow to see beautiful photos of her journey and check out the remaining performances!
NB Tickets for this are SOLD OUT based on just one email to the mailing list. If you’d like to make sure you don’t miss out on occasional pop-up @soplaylist events drop me a line!
