Good news for first home buyers!
After years of pressure from renters, advocates and community groups, last night’s budget ushered in major changes to tax concessions around housing. We’re happy to have been a little part of the conversation and in awe of our impact partners who helped get these changes over the line.
BUT...do you think it’s enough to finally reduce Australia’s reliance on the ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’?
With the Federal Budget dropping tonight and major housing reforms reportedly on the table, could this finally be first-home-buyers’ chance to own their dream home?
Can’t wait to see the details!
Big thanks to all our impact partners and supporters helping keep the conversation around housing affordability alive!

We’re sharing some of the stories and moments that didn’t make the final cut of #SoldDocumentary, but are just as important to hear.
Back in 2024 we met Maria, a childcare worker and mum navigating Sydney’s rental crisis. Even with half her income going to rent, she had been forced to move multiple times, but had to stay ‘local’ so her son could stay in the same high school for his senior years.
Send this video to someone renting with kids who can relate!

What’s the point of living in a vibrant, creative city if the creatives can’t afford to live there anymore?
We’re sharing some of the stories and moments that didn’t make the final cut of #solddocumentary, but are just as important to hear.
When @humphriesmark met Marcel and Eleanor during filming in 2024, their rent had just increased by $170 a week — a 32% hike.
Working across comedy, acting and education, they told him the increase left them feeling priced out of their neighbourhood, and possibly Sydney altogether.
Artists help create the culture and energy that make cities exciting places to live. But increasingly, they’re being priced out of the very places they help bring to life.
Well, this is well on the way to being an #impact win. Great to be playing a small part (and riding the tails of a much longer campaign).
At the end of October 2025 ‘SOLD! Who broke the Australian Dream?’ screened in the federal parliament theatre, hosted by Greens Housing Spokesperson @barbarapocock and Independent Senator @davidpocock . A panel featuring the senators, financial journalist @alankohlerofficial plus SOLD! director @bill_code , host @humphriesmark and @maiyazize from Everybody’s Home added their voices to calls for change.
Two weeks later The Greens secured the parliamentary inquiry into the capital gains tax discount, and this week (18.3.26) the inquiry found, in the words of the Guardian, that ‘the Howard-era settings are helping fuel inter-generational inequality in Australia’s housing market’ (the basic premise of SOLD!) triggering ever more speculation that Labor may tackle these tax settings in the May budget.
Our partner @field.rooms is hosting a special screening of SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? as part of their Acts of Commoning series, a program bringing people together to explore community-led approaches to housing, land and shared ownership.

Meet Carlos, an food delivery driver we met while filming in 2024. Demand for food delivery in the city was huge, but like many essential workers, he was struggling to keep up with the cost of living where the work actually was. As an international student without rental history or a stable contract, finding a place to live was difficult enough, especially when rent was already taking up 40% of his income.
Cities depend on workers like Carlos. But can those workers still afford to live in them?

Very excited to host the first Acts of Commoning event at the Field Rooms and look at a massive issue for Sydney: HOUSING. Sydney consistently ranks among the top three - least affordable cities- in the world! This is great for investors and developers, but for everyone else it’s a $!/?&!$ nightmare! Collectively is there anything we can do towards ACTUAL affordable housing…forever?
As part of @bekconroy ‘s public program for her residency at the Field Rooms, we have a couple of events with fabulous people (see below!) to start this conversation. Come along!
