Playing to play 🎈
Some ideas begin as drawings, research, and long conversations with the future…dreams. Years later, they become places…. They get built.
What started as my university thesis has now grown into different built playgrounds; A quiet dialogue between architecture, landscape, and play.
Grateful to see dreams taking shape in the real world- thank you !!!!
Something blue ….

‘JUGANDO A JUGAR | PLAYING TO PLAY’
OPENING: Thursday, May 15 | 2025
~ In conjunction and concert with the
MARFA INVITATIONAL OPEN | 2025 ✨✨✨
“Through her innovative approach to her own practice and the design of public spaces, Sofia Elias invigorates audiences and spurs them to find their own joy in creative expression. Finally, a “playground” worth the visit.
Hailing from Mexico City, the multifaceted artist has made a career out of provoking established architectural dictums, outfitting run-of-the-mill structures with mechanisms for interaction. “The research and sculptural elements I’ve been studying come to a proposal where play has no specific agenda, is not functional and has no clear or known norms,” says Elias. “Users’ actions are what determine the use and purpose of the objects and space, rather than vice-versa.”

MURMUR, INCARNATED IN WORDS AND CAPTURED IN SOAP — SOAP CULTURE 2024
This sculptural work by Murmur, the duo of Barnabé Fillion and Sofia Elias @sofiahellyes was unveiled as part of the inaugural exhibition themed Lavati la bocca con il sapone (“Wash your mouth out with soap”), a once-reprimanding Italian phrase, reimagined as a meditation on language, power, and expression.
Encased in soap, discarded electronic circuits become glowing relics, caught between decay and preservation.
Sofia Hellyes, an architect whose work spans children’s playgrounds and material experimentation, brings an intuitive sensitivity to recycled plastics and resins — shaping a piece where each element feels both tactile and charged with meaning.
