TIME OFF is a dance party presented by Vacation Pay, a creative brand based out of Charlotte, NC. With a focus on release from the everyday woes and worries of life, our parties are a way for individuals of different backgrounds, cultures and identities to escape from reality as a community. @gum.mp3 is a multimedia artist from rural North Carolina, currently residing in Baltimore. He was a Leslie King-Hammond Graduate Fellow during the 2024-2025 academic year at Maryland Institute College of Art, and was awarded the Fred Lazarus Award for Social Change. As Bandcamp said so well, “[he’s] a self-described noise machine, digital pirate, and technomancer—embodies the spirit of Akomfrah’s Data Thief in both his music and his persona, acting as a connector for different elements of Black dance music history.” Resident Advisor named his album Black Life, Red Planet as one of the Best of 2024. When you do anything artistic for as long as I’ve DJed, it becomes imperative to find fun new ways of expressing yourself. Charlotte SHOUT! kicks off today! This year I’m excited to be teaming up with @_hex.visuals on their interactive art installation Kalied-Escape. This immersive kaleidoscopic experience will be projected onto the WFAE building in Charlotte’s First Ward Park and feature soundscapes by NC artists @snoom_ , @sweat_transfer , and myself in collaboration with @kenheflo , @hermitwizard , @_f_z_x_x_x_ , and @jonlikesmusic . The installation will be up April 3-19, with soundscapes being played from 8pm-10pm each evening. Last night I had the pleasure of attending @stylussoundlounge Legends Of Sound event featuring 5 time Grammy winning producer and songwriter @flytetymejam It’s always a great feeling to hear someone with Jimmy Jam’s accolades and long history in the music industry still have a genuine love of the arts. From speaking about his beginnings, his breakout hits, and the current artists he keeps on his playlist, you could tell there was a warmth for the songs and albums that he spoke about. Much appreciation to everyone who helped make such an influential event happen here in Charlotte.
