On Thursday, 30 April, we hosted our final gathering: 🅗🅔🅚🅢🅔🅝🅢🅐🅑🅑🅐🅣 @smakgent an afternoon filled with sharing, quilting and storytelling 💜 We cut, assembled and sewed printed textiles into a collective quilt. The workshop acting as a public circle, offering a shared space for reflection. Participants stitched individual fabric pieces into a collaborative patchwork, creating a material expression of the diverse stories and archives brought together throughout the project. pictures by @mayavdg 🌸

The honor of your presence is requested at the union of sound and ceremony. CUNT RITES is back on the airwaves of @stationstation_radio to officiate ‘WEDDING’ on Thursday (30/04) from 15—16h CET 💍  For this occasion, our very own George Chinnery (@pusjka_ ) breaks his usual rule of experimental textures to make his one and only exception: a high-octane set of classic UK Garage bangers. It’s a ritual he reserves strictly for the post-ceremony dance floor, trading sub-bass pressure for UKG heat. Image courtesy of George Chinnery. The ring featured is a custom handcrafted design; so if you’re itching for some custom metal to match your unruly spirit, go ahead and send him a message (!) 💌 #cuntrites #stationstation

Huge thanks to @artists_nicc for the opportunity to design last weekend’s Art & Labor Book Fair 🖇️ DRUKDRUKDRUK brought together practices that insist on plurality: different perspectives, different urgencies, different ways of organising. What connects them is the refusal of the idea that artistic production exists outside of labour, and a commitment to making the conditions of that labour legible. Join us coming Thursday (30/04) for 🅗🅔🅚🅢🅔🅝🅢🅐🅑🅑🅐🅣 at @smakgent from 14—17h for an afternoon of quilting and storytelling 🪡 This closing activity combines the collective sewing and assembling of the printed textiles with a public sharing circle. Participants help stitch the individual pieces of fabric together into a collaborative patchwork artwork—a material expression of the diverse voices, stories, and archives that were brought together during the project. The session ends with a reflective and celebratory moment that follows Walpurgis Night, transforming a historically charged night into a moment of collective gathering and renewal. 📸 @johanpoezevara

From counter-archiving practices to self-organisation, from Trojan Horse Exist Strategies to collective authorship, these publications insist on other ways of operating. 𝘙𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘣𝘪𝘢𝘯?! 𝘙𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳?! 𝘙𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩?! The project “Liever Heks?!” at S.M.A.K. centres on the figure of the witch as a powerful and ambiguous symbol, historically linked to resistance and nonconformity, and reinterprets it through contemporary perspectives. Using materials from Suzan Daniel Fund and Amsab-ISG, which preserves LGBTQ+ histories in Belgium, the project creates connections between past struggles and present identities. The archive is not presented as something fixed, but is turned into an active, public process in which visitors are invited to participate. Participants are invited to bring their own documentation, placing them in dialogue with existing archival materials. Through collective practices such as collage, screen printing, and quilting, these contributions grow into a layered and “polyphonic” whole that reflects multiple voices and perspectives. Bring your sewing gear and join us next Thursday (30/04) from 14—17h for our third and final session ‘Heksensabbat’—where together we will quilt the outcome of the second activation ‘Heksenwerk’ 🪡 Part of ‘10 Years S.M.A.K. Beweegt’ #smakgent 📸 @johanpoezevara

What does it mean to produce, circulate, and sustain artistic work today? How can printed matter offer a vessel for ideas about the artist and artistic labour? NICC introduces DRUKDRUKDRUK, an art book fair that gathers essays, zines and independent publications on the theme of Art and Labour. It questions how printed matter can play a crucial role in exhibiting the working conditions, realities and infrastructures of artists and art workers. In a scenography by the artist collective Shift*; we present publications by @setmargins , @always_under_construction_hrm , @dividedpublish , @wfwa.ch , @werker.collective , @a.pass_artistic_research , @studiolievendeboeck and more. 23.04 - 26.04 10:00-18:00 NICC Vitrine (Lambert Crickxstraat 1, 1070 Anderlecht) DRUKDRUKDRUK is part of Art Brussels OFF-programme.

AND REALNESS: a series of printed aprons carrying fragments of queer history and coded language. Worn by café staff and volunteers, these aprons move through the space as they work. They invite questions, misreadings, explanations, and silences. In a time when queer language still needs to hide, shift, or circulate carefully, the aprons make visible how codes travel — and why they have to.
The aprons are not identity badges. They do not ask wearers to represent queerness or claim its history. Instead, they func- tion as carriers. Whoever wears them temporarily holds a piece of shared language, passing it on through use, conversation, and contact. Thinking of history as something carried rather than claimed, the work resonates with ideas from Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction” and Chloe O. Davis’s “The Queens’ English.”
