Next Monday, we dedicate an evening to Sophie Podolski, the "Belgian girl who wrote like a star." Program by @flemishreview Introduction by @astriddewaele We screen 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘯 (𝘥𝘶 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘧𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳), an intimate film homage to Podolski and the artistic community of Rue de l’Aurore 25 in Ixelles. Podolski published only one book during her lifetime – Le pays où tout est permis’ (1972) – before taking her life at the age of 21. Astrid Dewaele created Dutch subtitles especially for this evening. Tickets via offoff.be With thanks to @argos_arts #sophiepodolski

Final weekend to visit ‘Peace Nuts’ by Kasper De Vos! @kasper.devos The exhibition takes the acorn as its point of departure, a natural form designed to fall and give rise to new life. Within this form, he recognizes a striking resemblance to the bomb, an object designed by humans to fall in order to destroy. The working process reflects a traditional, craft-based approach, where the scale of the objects relates directly to both the dimensions of the trunks and the body of the artist. Notably, the poplar acorn is the only hollow piece in the series — a technical experiment intended to control the natural cracking of solid wood, though in the rest of the series, De Vos chooses instead to embrace the material’s unpredictable and raw characteristics. ••••••••••••••••••••

With 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 (𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲), we add a new artwork to Kunsthal Gent’s Endless Exhibition. Starting May 29, artist 𝗔𝘀𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝘇𝗮 @asaaddo transforms the church hall into… a tennis court!

The church — traditionally a place of one-way communication and higher authority — becomes a space for reciprocity, play and relaxation, in which coaches invite visitors to hit the ball together as a form of meditation. Raza imagines the tennis rally as a valuable counterbalance to our performance-driven society, in which work and efficiency take centre stage.   Welcome to the opening on Friday, May 29th 🎾🎾🎾

This was Heritage Day, last Sunday at Kunsthal Gent! @erfgoeddag Nadar Ensemble @nadarensemble , the Belgian ensemble for contemporary music, saw this as a perfect opportunity to perform Voiceless Mass in our church hall. With this composition, the Diné-American Raven Chacon won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2022. No singing voices are to be heard in Chacon’s composition Voiceless Mass; the composer grew up in the Navajo Nation. Instead, eleven musicians are positioned around the audience, each giving a voice to the voiceless in their own way. 📷 @isaac.ponseele

Thank you for joining us last Friday Evening for Lili’s Unruly Spring: an evening around ageing Women, Intimacy and Resistance.
What can we set against derogatory representations of older women’s bodies? How do we create new narratives of desire and intimacy? With these questions, the LiLI research team (UGent) concluded its three-day, counter-current spring with an evening of ideas and artistic intervention.
