عكّوب Akkoub is a kind of wild thistle that grows and is harvested in Palestine and the plant that is the central focus of our @eop.be program on 17.05 Through Akkoub we will explore the political dimensions of foraging and the resilience embedded in preserving culinary heritage and knowledge of plants and nature. 16:30 – Foraging Walk & Apéro We gather at Campo Victoria (Fratersplein 7) to harvest wild edible plants. Afterward, we will prepare an apéro together, including soup and bread made from the plants we have gathered. Capacity is limited to 15 people. The film portrays how Israeli laws prohibit the collection of native plants like za’atar and the ’akkoub, reframing the constraints of preservation and the politics of erasure. Een jaar geleden ontstond SOS Gaza. Uit woede en uit noodzaak om de genocidale daden in Gaza en de bezettingspolitiek door Israël te benoemen en te veroordelen. Het voorbije jaar stond in het teken van massale betogingen, publieke acties, open brieven, J’Accuses en rechtszaken. We bundelden de krachten met diverse organisaties. Vanuit de culturele, journalistieke, academische, syndicale en NGO-wereld klonk één gezamenlijke eis: stop de Belgische medeplichtigheid aan genocide. Keer op keer werd duidelijk: wij staan aan de juiste kant van de geschiedenis. Onze overheden niet. Ze falen structureel om de oorlogsmisdaden van Israël te stoppen. En ondertussen ontspoort de werkelijkheid verder. Israël en de VS blijven ongestraft oorlogsmisdaad na oorlogsmisdaad plegen. In Palestina, Libanon en Iran worden mensen verdreven en vermoord, ziekenhuizen gebombardeerd, journalisten aangevallen en honger ingezet als wapen. De Belgische regering, de Europese Unie en de wereld kijken toe. Belgische maatregelen werden aangekondigd, maanden geleden — maar een daadkrachtige uitvoering blijft uit. Omdat wij blijven weigeren te zwijgen. Omdat verontwaardiging zonder actie medeplichtigheid wordt. The Two-state Solution Trap: Alternatives to Partition and Statist Logics in Palestine This panel will discuss the impasse that the “two-state solution” brings to the struggle for justice and liberation in Palestine. It will analyze the troublesome history of its genesis and specification, its entrenchment in international law, and the political repercussions of the sustained effort to impose it as the only game in town. Furthermore, the panelists will examine alternative political-ethical horizons for framing the question of Palestine and assess their viability. Speakers: Dr Dimitri Van Den Meerssche | Senior lecturer in International Law and Fellow of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (IHSS) at Queen Mary University of London -Dr Omar Jabary Salamanca | Associate professor of social sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles -Dr Azar Dakwar | Postdoctoral researcher in religious studies at KU Leuven Moderated by Haifa Saleh, who is a Palestinian architect and PhD researcher at KU Leuven. Descended from two ethnically cleansed villages, her work focuses on spatial justice and indigenous resistance, she will critically deconstruct this model and foreground alternatives rooted in justice and the rejection of the foundations of settler colonialism. Over the past weekend, we facilitated a Playback Theatre workshop focused on Conducting Skills, bringing together a group of six dedicated practitioners, each carrying a wealth of stories and lived experience. The workshop began with a challenge: a live Playback performance at Palestine Café as part of the Eye on Palestine Festival. Each participant stepped into the role of conductor, holding space for moments and stories that would later become the ground for reflection and learning throughout the workshop. What emerged was not a casual performance. It was layered, demanding, and deeply moving. Stories unfolded around loss, rage, war, destruction, hope, resistance, and self-love—each one held with care, each one shaping the collective experience. This process set the tone for the days that followed: a practice rooted in presence, responsibility, and the ongoing work of listening and witnessing. This workshop was a colabration between @healing_on_the_move and Ork Ork Ork collective, hosted by @trefpunt_gent .

De documentaire The Encampments biedt een intieme inkijk in de studentenbeweging die aan de Columbia Universiteit in de Verenigde Staten ontstond uit protest tegen de banden van universiteiten met de oorlog in Gaza. De acties van de studenten ontketenden een landelijke opstand, waarbij tentenkampen zich over honderden campussen verspreidden. De film volgt onder meer de aangehouden activist Mahmoud Khalil, naast professoren, klokkenluiders en organisatoren, en legt zo de diepere inzet van een historisch moment vast dat wereldwijd blijft nazinderen. 👉 Afspraak op maandag 18 mei, om 19u in De Expeditie in Gent (Dok Noord 4F). 🇵🇸 Dit event vindt plaats in het kader van Eye on Palestine Gent.
