we’re honored to reimagine the former ginny williams gallery, known locally as the black building, into uchiko cherry creek. the original midcentury structure has been carefully preserved and thoughtfully expanded to include a sunroom, kitchen + an intimate 14-seat private dining room.
inspired by ginny williams’ legacy as a visionary collector and the natural beauty of colorado, the space blends warmth, texture, and intention. natural light pours through clerestory windows, timber beams frame the sunroom, and at the heart of it all, our wood-fired grill anchors the sushi bar, central to the uchiko experience.
throughout the restaurant, an interplay of rough and refined materials such as rich walnut and rough-cut stone evokes the elemental beauty of the frontier landscape.
a curated art collection honors ginny’s legacy of elevating women in the arts, featuring local denver artists like nicole hyde, oliva moya, and katherine ingui, alongside abstract, movement-inspired pieces that reflect the space’s dynamic energy.

From abandoned gas station to activated neighborhood corner.
The James is rising at Evans & Gilpin in Denver’s University neighborhood, replacing a vacant site with 18 new homes and ground-floor retail just steps from the University of Denver.
Infill projects like this come with challenges — including soil remediation and rezoning — but they also create meaningful opportunities to strengthen the urban fabric. We’re especially excited about the level of detail and material expression this project allowed.

Celebrating 20 years of Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House! In 2005, Semple Brown transformed the historic 1908 Municipal Auditorium into a 2,268-seat world-class venue—an endeavor aptly called “building a ship in a bottle.” We preserved the building’s story through exposed sandstone foundations and structural columns while navigating historic preservation, acoustic excellence, and budget constraints to create a cultural landmark.
The Ellie Caulkins Opera House has been home to @operacolorado and @colorado.ballet , while hosting film screenings, Broadway musicals, and concerts—filling a vital gap in Denver’s performing arts landscape. Cheers to 20 years of inspiring audiences and enriching our community!
