Thank you so much to Martina from @backbeatbookkeeping for two amazing finance workshops! She walked attendees through a wide range of information about finances and taxes for freelance artists. Some top takeaways from Martina's workshops: - Put aside 1 day a month to organize finances/expenses - When claiming professional development expenses, keep records of intent (ie: if claiming mileage to an audition, keep your audition slot email) - Grants are like loans: if not used as intended they need to be paid back - There are no stupid questions! Thanks to all who attended, and to our partners ScreenSask, SaskMusic, Saskatchewan Craft Council and SaskInteractive for supporting these workshops. Our workshops are made possible through funding from Creative Saskatchewan.

Are you an artist who dreads tax season? Let us help you! Join us tomorrow for a hands-on financial workshop with Martina of @backbeatbookkeeping . She can help demystify bookkeeping, taxes, and all of the financial tasks that freelance artists may find daunting. If you're not available for the workshop but want some assistance, have no fear! Keep your eyes on our social media for information about how to book a one-on-one financial consultation with Martina, free of charge for SATP members! Thanks to our partners ScreenSask, Sask Music, Sask Craft Council and Sask Interactive for supporting this workshop. Our Workshop series is made possible through support from Creative Saskatchewan.

It's tax season again! Do you have everything you need? We've got some great workshops for you to brush up on your finances and get you in a good place to move forward! Meet Martina, the driving force behind BackBeat Bookkeeping/Martina Music, and the facilitator for SATP's upcoming financial workshops! Martina is a data and numbers geek, with 30 years professional experience in bookkeeping, records and financial management, project planning, and process improvement from a variety of sectors, including non-profit, education, and government. She holds 3 Diplomas in Administration, Bookkeeping, and Entrepreneurship, 2 yearsof university courses in Accounting and Psychology, as well as numerous professional development opportunities in facilitation, project management, and business. Martina is also a DIYer in her own songwriting, acoustic performing, and sound recording projects, as Martina Music. Since 2016, she has been combining a deep respect for the history of the industry, while studying the complexities of the current digital & data driven music world. In experiencing both the frustrations and time-saving benefits of manual and digital bookkeeping systems, Martina combines her strengths and passions in BackBeat Bookkeeping. Based out of Saskatoon, SK, she provides bookkeeping for arts organizations and individual artist consulting services with integrity and patience, assisting creatives in all capacities in building resilience by understanding the numbers behind their artistic endeavours. Join Martina on February 21 and March 7 to talk all things finances for artists! Link in bio to register.

We're so excited to announce our next workshops, in partnership with ScreenSask, the Saskatchewan Craft Council, SaskMusic, and SaskInteractive: The Numbers Behind the Art: A Financial Overview for Artists AND A Hands On Financial Workshop! Folks who attended TheatreCon may remember the fantastic presentation Martina from BackBeat Bookkeeping/Martina Music gave about finances. She's graciously expanded that presentation into two workshops for SATP - an informational session, and a more hands-on session. You can attend either or both (you will still gain info from the second even if you couldn't attend the first)! These sessions are intended for creatives, including actors, designers, directors, stage managers, technicians, indie producers, painters, sculptors, songwriters, musicians, artists, bands, studios, producers, visual creators, marketing folks and more. Whatever your role is now or planning for the future, and whether you are DIY or have a team, understanding the "numbers" behind your creations will help your decision-making and buy back time to focus on your art. Join Martina for an interactive and fun (yes, we said fun!) session to better understand your artistic financial questions, as well as learning some of the hands-on tools you can use to meet your individual tax needs as an artist. Register for either session OR for both at the link in our bio. Workshops are $10/session for any association members (SATP, ScreenSask, SCC, SaskMusic, or SaskInteractive), and $40/session for non-members. If cost is a barrier, please reach out. SATP's workshop series is made possible through funding from Creative Saskatchewan.

Over 200 participants came together to make original board games and computer games within 48 hours during the Saskatoon Game Jam. The event funded and run by @saskinteractive was hosted this past fall by Sask Polytech in collaboration with Foolish Mortals, an independent video game studio in Saskatoon. A total of 51 worlds were created during the Saskatoon Game Jam challenge, allowing gamers to put out fires, escape sunlight, travel across landscapes, battle a dragon, heal patients and cook in a busy restaurant, among others. Saskatoon Game Jam was open to the public. Participants included members of the gaming community, industry, faculty, second-year Computer Systems Technology (CST) students and Sask Polytech alumni. The challenge took place in Sask Polytech’s CST program computer lab and classroom. #saskpolytech
