“Helping others is rewarding because it makes a positive difference in their wellbeing,” says Christa MacLean. For Christa, nursing has always been about making a difference in people’s lives. That belief has guided every chapter of her career, whether at a patient’s bedside, teaching in the classroom or as dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Health Sciences and Community Services at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. After gaining experience as a registered nurse, clinical educator and in management within the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region, Christa joined Sask Polytech as an instructor. As she began to see leadership as another way to support learning and care, Christa pursued progressive leadership positions, including program head, academic chair and associate dean. She has served as dean since 2022. These roles allowed her to influence not just individual learners but entire programs. Christa’s commitment to helping people has remained constant. From student and nurse to instructor, dean and everything in between, her journey rooted in service of others has come full circle as graduates of Sask Polytech nursing, health sciences and community services programs carry their skills, compassion and confidence into communities across Saskatchewan.

As Saskatchewan marks National Nursing Week, nurse practitioner education is expanding to help address workforce shortages and improve access to primary health care across the province. In the 2025-26 provincial budget, the Government of Saskatchewan committed new funding to Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the University of Regina to expand the Collaborative Nurse Practitioner Program (CNPP). Beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, 13 new seats will be added, increasing total program capacity to 48 seats per year. The CNPP is a two-year, graduate-level program offered through a partnership between Sask Polytech and the University of Regina. Aside from a one-week residency in Regina during the second year, the program is delivered entirely online. Clinical practice is completed in communities across Saskatchewan, allowing these students who are registered nurses to remain in their home communities while advancing their education. Online delivery also makes the program a practical option for working nurses balancing full-time employment, family responsibilities and advanced studies. @uofreginaofficial @skstudents @saskpolytechnursing @nurseuofr

May 5th is Red Dress Day – a day to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People. The red dresses we see in our communities are powerful reminders of lives taken and of the love, strength and resilience that remain. For Sask Polytech, Red Dress Day is both a time for reflection and a call to action. It reminds us of our shared responsibility to remember, to listen and to act. As we observe Red Dress Day, we encourage everyone across our campus communities to pause, reflect on the meaning of this day and recommit to moving forward, together.

Sask Polytech equips students to meet the challenges of the energy transition. The energy transition is the shift to cleaner, lower‑carbon energy sources to reduce pollution and address climate change. Students gain hands-on experience in the Energy and Resources Lab at Sask Polytech’s Moose Jaw campus. This facility is a hub for energy-related applied research and training programs, with a focus on alternative energy technologies, smart grids and energy efficient home construction.

From sport marketing and international supply chains to accessibility and universal design, Saskatchewan Polytechnic Faculty of Business and Management students are proving their education is far more than word documents and spreadsheets. Sask Polytech recently hosted its fourth annual Faculty of Business and Management student showcase, bringing together 66 students from across the province to share ideas, build connections and demonstrate the practical skills they’ll contribute to Saskatchewan’s economy. Working in teams, students representing all four campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon presented 18 projects that tackled real-world challenges across a wide range of industries. @saskpolytechbusiness
