On February 25th Scarborough Jazz Club welcomes two of Leeds most exciting young jazz musicians, Sam Ehret-Pickett (trumpet and effects) and Reece Soko-Fogg (saxophone). The pair were part of the mesmerising Amon Ra Collective at last year’s special ‘Behind the Sun’ gig that impressed a full audience by their innovative musical direction. Sam is a multi-instrumentalist who regularly plays with groups such as Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Fergus Quill's Imaginary Big Band, The Project and Amon Ra Collective. Reece is an alto-saxophonist influenced by the great players such as Charlie Parker, Jackie McLean and Cannonball Adderley; he attempts to infuse the soundscapes of modal jazz with the energy of be-bop and the fast and rhythmic beat of his Malawian heritage. In the Support slot are some of Scarborough’s most dynamic and prolific young musicians taking influences from classic era ECM artists and contemporary post rock. Doors 7.45. Music 8.00. Here's a clip from my Dec 2025 Ambient Leeds show. Last year I started developing a solo show with electronics after a deep dive into Jon Hassell's music. I debuted the show around Sept at ENOM electronic open mic, going on to perform the 1st full show at Ambient Leeds in Dec. The new show uses trumpet and euphonium processed through pedals and loops with drum machines, samplers, synths and small percussion to create hypnotic far away worlds with influences from ambient music, free jazz and the 4th world. I'm looking to bring the solo show to more venues, towns and cities across the UK in 2026. My debut solo record is also nearing the end of production. Next week, The Songwriters Circle and Same Place Trio come to Cardigan Arms as part of my event: Moonbeams. @herbie.hopkins came to me with the idea of the The Songwriters Circle and as soon as I read the vision I knew I wanted to help out because it's gonna be special. Each Songwriter will perform a few songs, talk about it and pass it on, welcoming the audience into their world for a small amount of time. It's also the world premiere of The Same Place Trio which is an all-star violin-less string trio comprising of some the most cutting edge string players out there. Ferg, Aby and Mick. They are like the avengers of the string world. It's my first gig at Cardigan Arms. If you've not been it's got an amazing function room with chandeliers, set away from the public so no interruptions, great beer, it's an important historic place and were supported by the great team who works at Cardi arms to put on this gig. First demo of the new act I've been putting together. In this audio, I am playing a Czech Fürst Pless through a multitude of pedals captured by the Tascam X8's room mics. I have been inspired down this path by Jon Hassel, Terry Riley and Miles Davis. The video accompaniment was mostly recorded in the Karlovy Vary region, where my Grandad and family originated from. The mood of the tracks doesn't necessarily match the videos, but interpret them as you like. Looking for bookings with this solo act from now on, and I am also looking for collaborations.
