2 weeks of @istasounds new LP “In Sound to All”! I’ve been working with these guys since their very inception and it’s so rewarding to see how much it’s grown and evolved. Deeply proud of this partnership and the fruits of our loving labor. The track playing (Velatropa) came out of Rex asking me to “do some Slow Fawn shit” on the organ- the rest of the record is filled with mighty riffs and relentless grooves. Highly recommended!
Debut single “Spacey” from the sweetest couple of fellas I could imagine working with, @itstherosehips . Production, mixing, drums, bass and percussion from your guy here. Keep an eye out for more. Love this band!
We’re Launching a Label & Releasing an Album!
Dear amigos, It’s with great honor and excitement that I share I am launching a new record label called @fossilrecordsco I’ve partnered up with the lyrically gifted and celebrated artist @margocilker to share music and writing from the American West.
Regarding the album part — Just over a year ago, I went to upstate NY to work with @samcohenmanimal on a new record, poems in hand, melodies in the mind. We ended up writing several songs together, and voila out came Half Truth! I’m certainly proud of this third LP from this project I call ISMAY.
Today I’m sharing the first single American Flag, co written with my cuz @marty_squibbs and partner Andy, and suggesting hey there, why not grab yourself a pre-order on vinyl or CD?

Here’s a load of photos from the last 3 weeks in the UK. Had a wonderful time working at @bam.bam.studios (truly amazing place!) If you need a residential studio in the Norfolk area, I can’t recommend this spot enough. Owner Harry Jordan and his family are incredibly welcoming. Looking forward to sharing the music from this session down the line. Was mostly working an unhealthy amount in the studio so didn’t capture enough pics to do it justice, but did manage to slip out a couple of times and see Cambridge and the beautiful seaside. It was good to get completely out of my world for a while - also good to be home!
Well well, it’s finally out in the world! Just a bunch of love for @saunshine777 on this big ‘New Day’, please go stream it! ❤️❤️❤️ All the time we spent on this music was fun - no friction, never stumped. It just flowed. To paraphrase what Saundra said in a prayer right before we began recording (one of my favorite memories of making this album), I hope this music brings light into your lives, because it’s already brought so much into ours. Thanks to our special guests @cochemea and @photay thanks to @fritzmyers for the lovely master and to @sarahgravesy for the beautiful layout ! 12 year anniversary of the release of Yellowbirds’ ‘Songs From The Vanished Frontier’! I made this stop motion video (back when I did that sort of thing) entirely out of artwork by Kara Smith @samonymitzfiddle . Her husband @briankantordrums played the very groovy drums on the entire album which also features the other Yellowbirds, @kaufyismynamo (happy belated birthday!) and @annienerd . I learned a ton in making this record from my then studio mate Jim Smith (not on Instagram?) who co-produced. Mixed and mastered by @djamesgoodwin . Time sure flies :)
Another glorious piece of music from my good friend @saunshine777 ! Saundra and I first started talking about making a record of her music back in 2020, and the acapella demo sha had made for this song just floored me! We approached it nearly the same for the record, just adding some bass and shaker to her vocal arrangement. We set out to make something raw, minimal and true to the source. For better or worse, we definitely stuck to that! I think it’s for the better and hope you agree ❤️ Streaming everywhere - please give a listen and watch for the full length next month!
