Repost from @myvoicemychoiceorg • “It’s men we share homes with... violating us. Ruining our lives. Killing us. So how could we know which of you to trust if you don’t loudly and constantly show us which of you are against this, and with us?” -Jameela Jamil

Repost from @doctorswithoutborders • Gaza: The ceasefire has failed to end the suffering. MSF calls on world leaders, the United States, Arab states, and the European Union, to use every political tool available to: Protect civilians from ongoing Israeli attacks Restore dignified living conditions Allow unhindered humanitarian aid into the Strip — immediately This is Israel’s obligation as the occupying power. The time to act is now.

Repost from @rescueorg • Fuel is the backbone of humanitarian response. The disruption caused by the war in Iran could become a full-scale deterioration in humanitarian conditions, hitting the world’s poorest communities the hardest. Without supply chains being restored or an injection of funding to counter rising costs, this will translate directly into more people going without the services they rely on to survive. The IRC is doing all it can to deliver aid to the world’s most vulnerable. Learn more about our work at Rescue.org

Repost from @middleeastmatters Two more paramedics were killed in a direct Israeli strike on Tuesday. Rescue workers Hossein Jaber and Ahmad Noura were struck while trying to treat a wounded delivery driver who had sought help at the Civil Defense headquarters in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon. The delivery driver had been injured in an earlier strike on Nabatieh’s town square. As soon as he arrived to be treated, a second strike hit, killing all three and injuring a female paramedic. “Israel knows we’re Civil Defense. [Our headquarters] has been here for weeks. They know,” Civil Defense rescuer Hussein Dakdouk, who was at the scene when his two colleagues were killed, told The National. Since the war began on March 2, at least 110 healthcare workers have been killed and 252 injured in Israeli attacks, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The ceasefire that began on April 17 has not prevented Israel from continuing its attacks on Lebanon. During the ceasefire, at least 588 people have been killed, including 23 children, and 1,224 people have been injured, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Repost from @msrachelforlittles • I just had a 2 hour call with the children of Umm al-Khair. I horrified at the way they have been treated. It’s truly horrific. I will never in my life forget a little girl telling me about witnessing her grandfather be run over and killed and her teacher be shot in front of her and killed. The children of Umm al-Khair just want to go to school. The children (around 8/10 years old) said things to me like “I just want to feel safe.” “I just want to go to school.” “I don’t want to witness violence.” “I’m scared.” It was an honor to speak with them. They are so smart, kind and wise beyond their years. Umm al-Khair is a Palestinian village in the West Bank where families have faced years of violence and displacement from nearby Israeli settlers and soldiers. Recently, they put up a barbed-wire fence blocking the village’s main road, keeping children from safely reaching their school. Since then, these brave kids have protested peacefully, even while facing tear gas and rifles from soldiers protecting the illegal fence. Today I met many of them. They were smart, funny, loving, and incredibly brave. They were also deeply traumatized. No child should grow up surrounded by this kind of fear and loss. Children deserve safety. They deserve school. They deserve to play, learn, and dream. Right now, our attention matters. The world watching may be the only thing helping protect this village and these precious children. Please keep sharing. Keep speak up for the children of Umm al-Khair. #westbank #msrachel #ummalkhair #moms #parents

Repost from @the.root A Louisiana resident who identified himself as Marshawn delivered a fiery, emotional speech to lawmakers during a state Senate hearing over redistricting Monday, accusing Republicans of trying to “cheat” Black voters out of political power. “The MAGA party is the last breath of the Confederacy,” he told lawmakers. “If y’all could give us less than zero seats, you would do it.” Marshawn’s testimony came as Louisiana Republicans advance a new congressional map after the Supreme Court weakened key protections in the Voting Rights Act. “There will be no more of your party,” he said. “The midterms gonna come, y’all gonna get wiped out,” he said.

Repost from @nycmayor When we came into office, we uncovered a $12 billion budget deficit. Today, I’m proud to say we brought it down to zero. We didn’t close the gap on the backs of working people. We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets and making historic investments in public housing. Call it Pothole Politics. Call it Democratic Socialism. It’s government that delivers for the people who make this city run. That’s what New Yorkers deserve. And that’s what we will keep fighting for every single day.

Mayor Mamdani just did the impossible. He closed NYC’s 12B budget deficit without cutting any services or raising property taxes on working New Yorkers. How did he do it? Efficiency, cooperation with Albany, and TAXING THE RICH! 🤑 👏
