MSF field communications manager Maryam Srour recorded her experience traveling back to collect some belongings. “There was no way of knowing if the house was still standing,” she said. The area where she used to live is now heavily damaged and largely abandoned. Luckily, Maryam's home was still there.
Most of MSF’s staff in Lebanon are displaced, as are the patients they serve, but like Maryam they continue to show up to provide urgent health care, distribute relief items, and support hospitals and health centers.
A joint US-Israeli military assault on Iran at the end of February triggered a sharp escalation in violence across the region. Israel then renewed a massive bombing campaign across several areas of Lebanon and issued mass evacuation orders, forcibly displacing more than a million people.

These words were written by Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila on October 20th, on a whiteboard normally used for planning surgeries.
He was killed by a strike on Al Awda Hospital on November 21st in #Gaza
The same strike killed another MSF doctor, Dr. Ahmad Al Sahar, as well as a doctor working with Al Awda, Dr. Ziad Al-Tatari. Other medical staff were severely injured.

No matter which word we highlight, the message is clear. Sudan: The world must act now, not later. This is a war on people. It’s the world’s largest displacement crisis.
The suffering in Sudan is not just a humanitarian emergency — it’s a political failure on a collective global scale. The humanitarian response is underfunded, deprioritized, and stalled by a lack of political will, both internationally and within Sudan.
Indifference and inaction cannot become our legacy as humanity.

🔴 UPDATE ON UKRAINE
We condemn the repeated attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Ukraine, which continue to deprive people of electricity, clean water, and access to essential services.
We strongly condemn Israeli forces’ attacks against paramedics in Lebanon, including the May 12 killing of two Lebanese Civil Defense workers in Nabatiyeh who were actively trying to save someone who survived a previous attack. We reiterate our urgent call for the protection of medical and rescue personnel.
This incident is part of an alarming pattern. Over recent weeks, Doctors Without Borders teams in Lebanon have been witnessing the consequences of airstrikes, drone strikes, and artillery fire, which are damaging hospitals, ambulances, and medical equipment, and killing or injuring civilians, health workers, and first responders. Lebanese health authorities, media and other humanitarian organizations have also reported this kind of violence, including repeated attacks while paramedics are rescuing people.
Health care workers, first responders, ambulances, and medical facilities are protected under international humanitarian law. Their killing not only devastates families and colleagues, but further weakens already strained emergency response and health care systems.

In March 2026, Russian short-range drones killed the highest number of civilians in Ukraine compared to any other type of weapon, according to the United Nations.
These drones pose a threat to people near the front lines, particularly on roads used for evacuation and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Health workers are also often in danger, whether in hospitals or on the road.

Yesterday in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, at least 12 people were injured when an Israeli tank fired two shells. The shelling happened about a quarter of a mile from Al Tayeb Clinic, where MSF teams were working.
Our teams treated all casualties from the attack. After receiving first aid and emergency treatment, all injured patients were transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital for further medical care.

In rural southern Tanzania, MSF midwife activity manager Olinzia Kamairo leads a team responding to life-threatening obstetric emergencies every day. Many women arrive at the hospital after long journeys, already in crisis. Through emergency care, staff training, and stronger referral systems, Olinzia’s team is working to ensure more mothers and newborns survive.

Midwives are advocates.
They bring lifesaving health services to women and girls.
They raise awareness about seeking early care.
They listen, they support, they train others, and they provide a continuum of care that covers all aspects of women’s health.
The world needs more capacity-building of midwives.
