A little forging action with @black.cat.metal at the anvil.
I really appreciate all of the experiences that photography has provided over the years... Seeing people create in their spaces never gets old.

I had an absolute blast creating some images at @black.cat.metal with Chris this weekend.
There's something so special to me about creating these kind of images while people share their craft and passions.

n this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I sit down with @ryanhk_ , a Calgary, Alberta–based photographer with more than 20 years of experience behind the camera.
Ryan’s journey in photography is built on resilience, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the craft. Specializing in corporate photography and portraiture, he has spent decades refining both the technical and creative sides of image making.
One of the things that sets Ryan apart is his fascination with the science of lighting. For him, lighting is more than just a technical tool. It is a language that shapes mood, defines character, and brings intention into every frame. In this conversation we explore how he approaches light, why it matters so much to his work, and how understanding lighting can completely transform the way photographers create images.
But Ryan’s story goes far beyond gear and technique.
As a cancer survivor, his perspective on life and creativity carries a depth that only comes from real experience. He speaks openly about resilience, vulnerability, and how facing life’s toughest moments can reshape the way we see both our work and the world around us.
We also talk about mental health within the creative industry and why open conversations around these topics matter more than ever. Photography can be a powerful tool for expression, healing, and connection, and Ryan believes strongly in building spaces where creatives support one another rather than compete.
This conversation is a reminder that photography is about much more than making images. It is about storytelling, perseverance, community, and the human experiences that shape the work we create.
Photography heals your soul.

I loved all the reflections off the plexiglass... felt like it added layers and depth to the image of this worker filling on of the tanks.

It's always nice to work with a crew that's willing to wade waist deep into a river with a 1200ws strobe so that you can all risk being electrocuted to get the image you want.
