On The Business of Home Podcast, @dennisscully interviews thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and creatives about the changes and challenges facing the interior design community. This week, @rodmanprimack and @rudester of @agointeriors and @agoprojects speak about the rise of collectible design, why online discourse about design is so frustrating, and why their work isn’t for everyone—and that’s just fine. 🖼️: A collection of projects by Ago Interiors 📸: @mr_sturman and @stephenkentjohnson

My friend Chris edits @lohimag and asked me to write about a material that many of us have strong feelings about : glass block. I love his irreverent publication and loved the assignment. He brought me a copy in Milan last week and hope you can get yourself a copy too. check@out his tropigoth nails

Meet Rodman Primack — designer, curator, former creative director of Design Miami, co-founder of AGO Projects (@agoprojects ) with Rudy Weissenberg (@rudester ), and devoted parent of Chapo. The CDMX-based studio is behind some of the most considered interiors, art placements, and collectible design moments of the last decade, and Primack is one of those people who seems to be everywhere the conversation is happening, usually before the conversation knows it’s started. This year’s Salone del Mobile was no exception: a 1930s Borsani apartment activated by Dimore Studio, an afternoon with Theaster Gates at his Prada Home store and teahouse, Bethan Laura Wood’s new ceramic collection, and Prada Frames: IN SIGHT curated by Formafantasma (@formafantasma ) among the highlights. We caught up with Primack — Sun Valley native, surrogate SF resident, and returning exhibitor at FOG Design+Art — fresh off the plane and full of opinions about the inspiration, the people-watching, the friends, the food - and a sneak peak of their upcoming project in San Francisco! “Salone is always the best - you get to catch up with so many friends, see beautiful things, get inspiration and delight in the best people watching and looks - oh and food ! and food!” @rodmanprimack #theessentials

Welcome to the home of @rudester and @rodmanprimack — the visionary duo behind @agoprojects in Mexico City. Over two decades, their AD100-recognized work has become known for layering art, texture, pattern, and color into spaces that feel vibrant, warm, and unmistakably human. And their own home is no exception. Every room is a study in their signature approach. Collected, intentional, joyfully eclectic, and full of life.

i have no idea why it has taken me this long… so don’t waste time : RUN - book your tickets, get on a plane, train, or in my case a BUS and get to Genoa. It’s INCREDIBLE. I barely scratched the surface here and have inspiration for years. i cannot wait to come back… one thing made me smile, as much as i was captivated and swooning over beautiful 16th and 17th century frescos and 18th century plaster work (oh and late 15th c tapestries that make your toes curl and palms sweat) i nearly lost my mind at the modernist moments/interventions of Franco Albini (working closely with the curator Caterina Marcenaro at the Palazzos Rosso and Bianco) in a number of instances - like that’s when i was on the verge of hyperventilating- a reminder of what a truly committed modernist i must be… standing in one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful romantic gardens in the world (at the Palazzo Lomellino) what’s really pulling my attention? the corner of an Albini city govt building rising to meet the minaret in the garden…. well it was spectacular and not not at all overrun.. also thanks @cabanamagazine - your guide was perfect, if you go to Genoa get a copy of that locals favorite list!

When I was a kid on Saturday mornings, think 1987, when I was twelve, before I went skiing, I woke up early to watch my favorite show of the week: Style with Elsa Klensch on CNN. It came on pretty early in Idaho, maybe around 7 am and I had started watching it a year or two before, in between cartoons and pulling on my ski stuff. It’s incredible for me to think about how much of what I respond to today is rooted in the fashion shows she covered and that I watched breathlessly- committing my favorites to memory. This week I was reminded about the work of Emmanuel Ungaro and how much I loved it then and still do today. He was a master of mixing pattern, not afraid of color, and was frequently looking for lightness and fun, even some humor in his collections- super inspiring stuff. I am not surprised then to have fallen completely in love with his country house in the Luberon this week @domainedelacavalerie His daughter Cosima and her husband Austin have expertly refreshed the main house, added a new building with a couple more guest rooms, another swimming pool, expanded gardens, and launched an amazing award winning olive oil… Staying here the last couple days with them has been restorative and delightful… seeing a sofa of patched together indigo cotton plaids or one with three different fabrics mixed together was like seeing something of my own in someone else’s house and that made me smile BIG, we have been doing exactly that for years and never tire of it and I am so glad he did it too (and certainly before me!) Sometimes your hero’s disappoint you, you see behind a curtain and it’s sad or simply not what you imagined and that is thoroughly disappointing (and not really fair.) But that is not the story at La Cavalerie - one feels the elegant yet easy, confident grace that was a hallmark of his apparel so effectively translated into an interior, here it all goes together and that is not surprising at all.

Ojai is one of the most incredible places I know; right now the air is so thick with the smell of citrus blossoms that even with windows and doors closed houses smell like spilled bottles of orange flower water… not to mention all the blooming wisteria, stone fruit trees.. it’s exploding in flowers, it’s really magic… what’s also magic are the photos @deweynicks took of our beloved friends Anne and Dudley and their home for @santabarbaramag magazine with a story by @loriedporter - This home is a project we worked on for many years together with Anne, Dudley, @stampsandstamps and @garden_in_paradise - the care and love of all involved shows - it is some of our favorite work ever!

Congratulations MJ! @mjkimstudio I am sadly a terrible documentarian - and am grateful that some people took some pictures of MJ’s show and opening last night at the Long Beach Museum of Art… please go check it out if and when you can - it’s up until June! Her work just makes me happy - she has such mastery of clay and form and POWER - these works capture strength, subtlety, grace, mischief and a wise knowing perspective …. so grateful to work with you MJ @agoprojects !! 💚💚💚

Thank you to the @nytimes and @raymarkrinaldi for this piece in today’s paper about @agoprojects the collectible design gallery @rudester and I established in Mexico City in 2019 after many years of working on other (side) projects with various designers and collaborators. Thank you to the artists and designers that have put their trust and faith in our work together alongside our teams @agoprojects and @agointeriors for being committed to all this with us. I feel really lucky that through a twist of fate I “spoke” Spanish first and that those wires and love of language put me on a life path that would always include Mexico and Latin America. Mainly, I feel really lucky that I get to do this, together with Rudy. Next stop… @tefaf Maastricht.

Forgive Me (and thanks for all the birthday messages ): A year ago I turned 50 (and this week 51) and I have noticed through the last year, little “shifts” and realignments. They didn’t come in a rush on the day but over many months and have led to a clarity about how to move forward; how to live every day and with whom. I have spoken to some of my close friends (and honestly lots of people who will just listen) about this and how three encounters in 2025 have accelerated and clarified these shifts. I have posted about it a bit too, as these moments caught me by surprise and have stayed with me.
