What a night! We spent last Thursday celebrating the opening night of Bio-Spaces: Regenerative, Resilient Futures - a collaborative effort with @planted_community and of course the amazing team at @rocalondongallery
The evening was filled with insightful conversations sparked, undoubtedly, by the surrounding projects, products and practices which extended across different approaches to bio design.
We hope that this exhibition will continue to act as a catalyst for conversations about how we can work collaboratively, across practices and approaches to address the triple threat we are facing as a global community - to safeguard the future of all life.
A big thank you to our co-curators @victoria_jackson_studio and @rodi_makes , Oliver for his creative direction, and the incredible @planted_community team. This really was a labour of love!
Check out Bio-Spaces until the 30th of September.

We’ve had a very busy week at OHD putting together the upcoming Bio-Spaces exhibition.
It’s been a dream bringing together some incredible work and marrying it with the beautiful Zaha Hadid designed gallery. Creating an exhibition which we feel really spans across practices and crafts; from independent makers to some of the most well-known practices around.
The exhibition opens tomorrow, with the private view on the 25th of April. I hope you enjoy being in Bio-Spaces as we much as we did curating it. •

It was an absolute pleasure to write a chapter for this beautiful book published by @gestalten in collaboration with my colleague Rosa Isaacs (@rodi_makes ) back in 2023.
‘The House of Green’ features a huge range of inspiring examples of Biophilic Design from around the world. Our chapter explores why we need to look to nature when it comes to designing our spaces and how this can benefit the wellbeing of both people and planet.

Here's another project to give you all a little green boost today! 🪴
We showcased @fullgrownfutureuk at our Bio-Spaces exhibition (co-curated with @oliverheathdesign ) last year. Understandably they were one of the stars of the show.
Visionaries @munro.gavin and Alice G. Munro refer to themselves as "chair farmers".
They have an orchard in Derbyshire where they painstakingly plant, prune, shape and nurture these magnificent pieces of furniture from living willow trees.
In essence they are using the trees as "Zen 3D printers", whereby the tree is both the printer and material, so much of the wasteful production associated with conventional manufacture is bypassed.
A chair can take up to 8 years to grow so patience is required. I am sure you'll agree the end result is stunning. Isn't it just?

And in the blink of an eye the exhibition is over! As I head up to the @rocalondongallery for the exhibition breakdown today, I’d like to thank all those who took part. I’m feeling super inspired after making so many great connections with other designers who are working with nature as a collaborator rather than just a resource. I’m also curious as to what this might lead to next…. #biophilicdesign #designingwithnature #regenerativedesign
Thank you to everyone who attended our Back to Nature ‘meet the makers’ evening last night at Roca London Gallery. The last in our series of talks as part of our Bio-Spaces exhibition, co-curated with @oliverheathdesign with @victoria_jackson_studio and @rodi_makes It was a phenomenal night!
A special thanks goes to all our speakers @gencork@butterfly_airquality@cecoceco@paulcroftsstudio@sofiahagendesign@blast.studio@mamoumani_architects@moodlightproject
Bio-Spaces showcases more than 70 architects, designers, products and materials that take inspiration from the natural world, rather than just taking from it.
The exhibition is open until the end of September, part of the London Design Festival (@l_d_f_official ) at @rocalondongallery , Chelsea.
The exhibition is free to attend.

This is the Mat chair, designed by Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen for @normanncph , utilising hemp and eelgrass (seaweed) which are renewable, durable bio-based materials, as alternatives to traditional 3D shell chair materials. The name, Mat, is a reference to the material innovation at the core of the design - rooted in the principles of reduce, re-use, and recycle, the Mat collection aims to revolutionise conventional furniture production.
The Mat chair is on display at Bio Spaces, co-curated by Planted and @oliverheathdesign , with @victoria_jackson_studio and @rodi_makes . Open now at @rocalondongallery and a partner event of @l_d_f_official .
…also incredibly lucky to traipse around CDW in the rain with my amazing colleague & mate @victoria_jackson_studio (and CDW bonus colleague & mate, Michelle)
We’re a wacky bunch, but super passionate about what we do and continuously learning about how our industry (us) can do better.
CDW - rain edition ☔️ Great to see some familiar faces (and meet some new ones!) as many of us braved the wet weather @clerkenwelldesignweek
It’s super interesting hearing the stories behind the products from those who know them best. One thing that really struck me this year was the transparency of many companies - about where they’re doing well, but also where there is room for improvement.
We are also seeing a shift in dialogue surrounding products e.g, end of life 👉 end of use. Hopefully this is a reflection of active change and not just language!

Some of my favourite corners from Bio-Spaces 🌏
Co-curating this exhibition with @victoria_jackson_studio in collaboration with OHD & Planted saw us inhabiting the beautiful @zahahadidarchitects@rocalondongallery to bring together some truly impactful makers, projects and products from the past, present, and future.
It’s on till September, with talks happening across the next few months 👀
