We collect our @pingle_produce_veg every week from the @featherstarpub and this week we decided to have a cheeky pint after an extra full day.
Very happy to see our friend of many moons, @zr.butler , and extra pleased that @smizzlikesyou was there in person with Rose too.
Time for a revisit of these informative, concise and heartwarming pictures drawn by Smizz way back in 2018 - another lifetime away!

You may have spotted an intriguing looking chair on the design image for the Plant Heritage Missing Collector Garden. It is in fact a bronze cast of the @fullgrownfutureuk Gatti Chair, the first grown chair created by Full Grown.
Over 20 years, Full Grown have experimented and developed new techniques in creating chairs out of living trees, training willows to grow into functional pieces of furniture and stunning pieces of art.

For the past 17 years, Full Grown has been pioneering a groundbreaking collaboration with nature, cultivating tree-grown chairs as a response to the environmental crisis. Founded in 2006 by Gavin Munro and now run alongside his partner Alice Munro, the project has evolved into a globally recognised practice of living design. Munro’s invaluable experience has positioned him as a leading expert in the expanding field of bio-design, developing new techniques and experimental approaches that bridge horticulture, craftsmanship, and sustainable production.

We’re huge compost fans, as is Doris.
If you’ve listened to the @ourplantstories_podcast featuring us (there’s a link in our bio), you’ll know that she learnt to spring over the wall from the compost heap, so had to be kept on a lead at the #ChairOrchard for a few weeks, as we built up the barriers a little further.
We also dismantled it a little and spread some of the lovely goodness onto our chairs.

And in answer to some of the questions - yes - we have had a wormery, we’ve put our very elderly feather cushions in the compost before Doris could destroy them, and we’ve discovered A LOT of plastic coating and tape from the cardboard we’d been adding. We have a good sieve before we add it onto our precious plants. 🌱

What if furniture wasn’t made… but grown?!
In Wirksworth, after a chance introduction in the pub via our friend John, we visited Alice & Gavin’s incredible project — guiding trees into shape over years to create chairs and other fantastic pieces.
In their process they experiment with different designs, different species of tree and different strategies to influence how the tree grows.
