For the new site of London Coffee Factory, Steve Jensen Design designed an architectural partition wall separating the roastery from the café and offices while keeping open views onto the roasting line. We developed custom Cupsan panels in shades of blue, green and grey, used as worktops, storage and display surfaces set within a reclaimed timber structure crafted by Yes Make using shipyard wood. To create the panels, we recycled one tonne of discarded coffee cups, turning waste from the coffee industry back into the space itself. Meet The Artist: @Blast.Studio for One Triton Square, commissioned by @BritishLandplc & Royal London Asset Management Blast Studio is a London-based practice founded in 2018 by Paola Garnousset, Martin Detoeuf and Pierre de Pingon. The studio transforms urban waste into innovative biomaterials, furniture and architectural forms, blending nature, technology and design. From working with mycelium to developing Cupsan - a sustainable material made from discarded coffee cups - their work bridges research, craft and production. Accolades include the French Académie des Beaux-Arts’ Prix d'Encouragement en Architecture (2020), New Talent at the Surface Design Show (2022), @LoeweFoundation Craft Prize finalist (2022) and @HouseandGardenuk Rising Stars of Design (2023). NeoTrees series, 2025 Created for One Triton Square, the works combine generative algorithms, 3D printing and mycelium cultivation. Using a substrate made from recycled coffee cups collected on site, each piece is printed, inoculated with mycelium and grown into organic structures before being dried. The forms balance digital intention with biological unpredictability, intricate, tactile sculptures shaped by both algorithm and organism. Together they imagine a future where architecture works with living systems, not against them. We are so proud to say that our material Cupsan has been shortlisted in the @dezeenawards_ in the Surface Design Category!! For the past year, we’ve been completely focused on developing this board material made in our North West London studio from used coffee cups and paper collected across the city. From the beginning of Blast, our dream has been to imagine a city built from the waste it produces, and Cupsan is the fruit of this research. We see it as part of neo-vernacular approach to materials, using what’s locally available and abundant to build our interiors: our own waste. Being recognised by the @dezeen jury feels like an incredible encouragement to keep pushing this vision forward. A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us on this journey. @tmto_architecture for using Cupsan in the early days for the stunning @happyskybakery . @open_desk for integrating it into their beautiful furniture pieces. Keep your eyes out for a great project coming soon with @stories_spaces 👀 We can’t wait to show you what’s coming next!! ✨ #dezeenawards #madeinlondon #biomaterials #circulareconomy #madefromwaste

Fugue Gallery is looking forward to exhibiting the work of Blast Studio, composed of Poala Garnousset, Martin Detoeuf and Pierre de Pingon, in our upcoming exhibition - The Living Room, curated by Helena Elston. On view: October 25 – December 7, 2025. RSVP to the Opening Reception with the link in bio. Blast Studio is a London-based collective exploring the potential of ultra-local materials to redefine how cities make and build. We have developed Cupsan, a biomaterial created from discarded coffee cups collected across the city. From this material, we design and craft sculptural and architectural pieces that embody a Neo-vernacular culture rooted in local waste. Alongside our own creations, we collaborate with artists, architects, and designers who use our boards and materials to shape their own works. Our practice bridges craft, biology, and digital manufacturing to imagine a city built from what it discards, where waste becomes the raw matter of beauty and regeneration. Artist: @blast.studio

Happy Sky Bakery project incorporates a new material from @blast.Studio , ‘Cupsan’, along with bespoke Cedar joinery by @morkus.carpentry (with reeded glass screens). Nice to be able to incorporate recycled materials that complement the design approach. Cupsan is a circular, chemical free material with a stone-like texture locally made in London. #tomato_happyskybakery

Westbourne Park Makers Series: @blast.studio . Blast Studio is a London-based collective redefining sustainable design, using robotics and living organisms to transform waste into furniture and architecture. As part of our Westbourne Park project, they’ve been commissioned to create a sculptural piece along the canal—one that blends nature, innovation, and circular design. Taking inspiration from organic forms and natural ecosystems, their work will not only be an artistic feature but will also serve as a habitat for local bees, weaving nature into the fabric of our building. Here’s a look inside their studio, where creativity and circularity go hand in hand.
