We look ahead, continuing to advance our work while engaging with the possibilities ahead.
Each project carries something forward.

Over two decades of practice our work has evolved across scales, geographies, and typologies - from private residences to cultural and civic projects.
Recognition stands as a by-product of a consistent pursuit.

Light as a threshold: in a house in Lauenen bei Gstaad, Switzerland.
A translucent glazed screen filters light between the central stair and living space. The softly diffused surface creates privacy while maintaining a sense of openness within the chalet interior.

Framing the landscape: the living room at Oak Cottage opens to the countryside through a sharply angled window.
A sculptural frame for the rural landscape beyond. Part of a low-carbon extension to a historic farm cottage, the timber-clad building reinterprets the traditional barn with contemporary materials and generous glazing.

Light and form: a quiet moment inside Gota Dam House, Zimbabwe.
Sunlight enters through a circular oculus, illuminating the library shelves and carving light into the stone-lined interior. The house itself sits atop a granite rock overlooking a vast dam, where architecture, landscape and light become inseparable.

A civic foyer: for our proposal for Düsseldorf’s Opera House of the Future.
The ground level forms an open Forum that extends the public realm into the building. Framed by outward-reaching balconies and visual connections to workshops and rehearsal spaces, the foyer becomes a place of encounter.
The everyday life of the city and the world of performance meet, setting the stage for a vertically layered cultural experience.

A light-filled threshold: our proposal for the transformation of Salle Marcel Hélie in Coutances reimagines the entrance as a luminous extension to the original Brutalist hall.
The new foyer creates an open gathering space for performances, rehearsals and events, while connecting the building more naturally to the surrounding city.

Entering the theatre at Théâtre du Rhône.
A new double-height pavilion establishes a clear point of arrival. Opening directly onto the surrounding park, the foyer operates as both threshold and social space, where architecture and landscape converge in a moment of anticipation before performance.

Competition work compresses time. Ideas are tested quickly, debated openly, refined collectively. Moments of doubt sit alongside moments of clarity. It’s a process that demands speed of thought, collaborative energy and the courage to stay with an idea until it holds. At a certain point, you stop adjusting and stand behind the idea.
‘Doing a project is like writing a book … sometimes you have to trust the story and not the author’

SSA team at work...
Daily work unfolds through collaboration and exchange. Our studio is more than a place of production, it acts as a framework for collective thinking that is structured, and attuned to the evolving rhythms of the practice.

At work in our London studio. Ideas evolve through dialogue and precision.
We close the month reflecting on the in-house process between team members, and the clarity, rigour and care that shape each stage of delivery.
