On September 7th, 2004 Hurricane Ivan brought mass destruction and loss of life to our sweet Grenada. Twenty years later our community was hit hard again with Hurricane Beryl, but most of Grenada was spared and our sister islands to the north bore the brunt of the Category 4 storm. Understanding first hand what this level of destruction feels like, we knew we had to help in every way we could. This is where @risegrenada was born…a group of our amazing customers, sailing content creators and local friends came together to raise funds, deliver aid and materials, and offer hands-on support to rebuild. With the funds raised thus far, we’ve been able to; * Deliver generators, chainsaws, tarps, fuel, hygiene kits and water in the immediate aftermath of the storm * Purchase building materials to repair homes, businesses and fishing boats * Provide support to cruiser volunteers and aid workers assisting in the construction of damaged homes The rebuilding after Ivan 20 years ago was an arduous process. However, the island sprang back better than before and we are confident this will be the case with Carriacou and Petit Martinique. In a heartwarming display of community and collaboration, we teamed up with Operation Cruisers Aid to source and deliver emergency oxygen to Union Island for a small child in respiratory distress. A dedicated cruiser quickly mobilized his boat to transport the oxygen, and we managed to locate a child-sized nasal cannula in Carriacou, coordinating a rendezvous on the way.
