With so many different types of epoxy on the market, figuring out which is best for your project can be overwhelming. Don't worry, we've got you! Check out this handy epoxy selection guide to make the decision easier.
Epoxy is one of those products every cabinet shop should have in its arsenal. We use @totalboat Thixo 2 part epoxy on a lot of our projects, especially when we need extended glue up time and a rock solid bond.
In this project, Brad is gluing up a miter folded end panel using Thixo. One of the features we really like is the simple application process. It comes in a standard caulk style tube with mixing tips that automatically blend the resin and hardener at the correct ratio as it’s dispensed from the gun. Clean, consistent, and extremely strong.
What’s another application you’d use epoxy for in the shop?
Delivery day = one very excited maker over here. 📦🥰
My supplies from @kutzall and @totalboat showed up this evening for the Pour & Carve Challenge, and I could not wait to tear into these boxes. Between the carving burrs, epoxy, and all the goodies inside, this project is officially starting to feel real. 🐊
The goal this weekend: get the rough carve knocked out and maybe even start the epoxy process if all goes well. 🤞🏻
Also, big shout out to my oldest son who stepped in as cameraman/director…and the bloopers that prove we had a blast making this reel. 😂🎬
When @jackman_works schedules a @makerhockeyleague hockey game with @totalboat and @carolinashoe you know it’s gonna be a throw down. A gentle one but nonetheless it’s got company pride and bragging rights on the line. 🥅🏒🔥
And again Team TotalBoat took home the silver - um or the WOOD! Can’t wait for next year!
Just some outdoor shop time sounds 🪵🌿
Spent yesterday evening sorting through wood and laying out pieces for my alligator build for the @kutzall + @totalboat Pour & Carve Challenge. Trying to figure out all the layers and dimensions before glue-up.
Bonus points if you spot the split second where I start singing along. 😂🎤

Every curve in Electric Demons started as raw wood and a cloud of carving dust. The Kutzall bits did the heavy lifting here, shaping each twisted form individually, especially the flame element that became the master mold for the translucent Total Boat resin casting.
Alcohol dyed silver leaf was also embedded into the resin background layers to create the shifting metallic glow beneath the surface.
What looks fluid and molten began as aggressive texture removal, refining contours a little at a time until the wood itself felt alive enough to “burn.” The resin flame was then cast directly from that carved form to preserve every groove and ripple left by the burrs.
This piece is really a conversation between carving and casting, where the tool marks become part of the final energy of the work. #kutzall #totalboat

Day 1: Planning
My sculptures start on paper. Sketching allows me explore form, proportion, balance, movement, and scale before committing time and resources to the physical piece.
A sketch is also a problem-solving tool. It helps identify structural challenges, refine composition, and experiment freely without wasting material. In sculpture especially, it’s helpful to identify what’s going to be involved, both process and materials
Rough sketches create a roadmap that keeps the original concept clear throughout the process. Important to note you don’t need to be able to draw, and it also doesn’t have to be a sketch. With certain sculptures, I’ve printed reference images and written notes on them.
The final sculpture may evolve far beyond the original drawing, but the sketch creates the foundation that turns inspiration into a successful work of art.
For this challenge we’ll be sculpting a philodendron out of epoxy resin and colored pencils, a epoxy and pencil shavings planter. Stay tuned for the next step where we’ll move into the wonderful world of 3D scanning.
Pour & Carve Challenge:
Step one- getting my sketch onto the wood.
Before I ever touch carving tools, I like to map everything out first so I can get a full picture of where I’m headed with a piece — proportions, movement, overall flow… especially for something this big. (I spy a 4-foot 🐊)
Also, shop time has looked a little different lately. Tomorrow my youngest has surgery for a fractured humerus, so life behind the scenes has been a mix of sketching gators, doctor visits & phone calls, and trying to hold everything together in between.
Still incredibly excited (and grateful) to be part of the Pour & Carve Challenge and finally getting started on this alligator carving. Let’s go.🙌🏻
