Amid troubled times, here a few things to be grateful for. A deeply felt thank you to @annasoife and @cassie_johnnysdaughter for their grand contributions to @overgaden_ ‘s program, and for continuing to inspire, even my dearest little Lola!

So excited to finally have “Bande à part”—the publication baby, following the conference I hosted at UKS back in 2019, in collaboration with Prem Krishnamurthy and Chris Sharp—in hand! Look out for a book launch near you!

The publication “Bande à part” discusses the reasons, means, and rationales of a range of recent independent institutions, which often have a small economy yet create a considerable impact within their respective art scenes. It takes a close look at how small- to mid-scale institutional models depart, each in a different way, from the traditional formats of the white cube.
Structured around a questionnaire of thirteen questions posed to 15 different self-organized art institutions (1857 @1857oslo , Asakusa @asakusa.o castillo/corrales-paraguay @paraguay.press Kunsthalle Lissabon @kunsthallelissabon Kunstverein @kunstverein The Artist’s Institute @artistsinstitute Kunstverein @kunstverein Louise Dany @louisedany Lulu @lulu_by_xmuseum New Theater @callahead_ Pivô @pivoartepesquisea@fe_brenner P! @p_exclamation , PRAXES @praxes_ RAW Material Company @raw.gram2011 Signal @signal_signal_signal Sørfinnset skole @geirtoreholm ) the book brings together a toolbox of examples giving insights into the murky and meticulous work of constructing an institutional platform—the “hows”, “whats”, and “whys”—spoken of by someone on the inside.
The institutional contributions are bracketed by an introductory roundtable by Rhea Dall, Prem Krishnamurthy, and Chris Sharp, an essay reflecting on the necessity and irreverence of Ashkal Alwan @ashkal_alwan by Christine Tohme @chris_tohme , and a conversation between Dall and Chris Kraus on collective practices.

Last but not least a shout out to the great UKS team, getting the conference off ground, and to Norsk Kulturråd and Fritt Ord @frittord for the support!

Little Lo aka Lola Isa Moe Gaardboe Dall landed exactly five weeks ago, turning my world into an extreme sport of nursing, napping, sleep deprived strolling, and a deep love I cannot describe. If I could preserve her little infant self’s sweet smell and grumpy looks forever, I would most probably be the happiest person alive.
Now: she’s gonna be (mainly) off grid till she can TikTok or Tweet or whatever herself, so enjoy her happy foot and fingers here!
And then just for all time’s sake: she’s my own (and her own) entirely, no man (only a donor) involved. And: it’s an incredible privilege to be in a part of the world where getting help to getting a child is within reach, and not the least for it to finally work out; and let that be a shout out to those of you who wish to walk, are currently walking, or have already tried to walk this path—sending you all my love!
After having set sail for quite a few new projects and recalibrations of which I’m super proud to have achieved most with the fabulous team at O—Overgaden of late, I’m ready for another and slightly more “real” baby: the little-in-belly-Dall. She’s my own entirely (no man, except a donor, involved), supposedly going to be called Lola, and I’m planning to spend most of my hours coming up dedicated to her well-being. But just before that, since I have the opportunity, I’ll take my Demi Moore moment—bare with me (the further you scroll right, the more skin!)!
Much loooove to you all, I’m diving deep into hands-on, offline land really really sooooon!
