There is a model for how we rebuild and heal after the human-made disaster being inflicted on the USA right now. Welcome to @DenaHeals —a mutual aid marketplace and wellness center born in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire in Altadena. This is our final story (for now) in the #WeekOfCitizening. Join our mailing list and share the stories you’re seeing. stories.howtocitizen.com (or link in bio) When the 💩 hits the fan, we are told people become selfish and look after themselves alone. Every disaster ever proves otherwise including after the most devastating fire to hit Los Angeles. Something extraordinary took root. Not fear. Not isolation. But care for each other. Rebecca Solnit said it well: “When all the ordinary divides and patterns are shattered, people step up—not all, but the great preponderance—to become their brothers’ keepers. And that purposefulness and connectedness brings joy even amidst death, chaos, fear and loss.” Rooted in Indigenous wisdom and the Black Panther 10-Point Program, Dena Heals is a blueprint for what happens when we lead with love, show up for each other, and practice power together. They’ve supported 3,500+ people from over 500 families. This is what it looks like to citizen in the midst of disaster. Not with despair—but with collective action, healing, and hope. We saved this story for last in our #WeekOfCitizening series because it reflects all the pillars of How to Citizen: 🌱 Show up & participate ⚡ Understand power 🤝 Commit to the collective ❤️ Invest in relationships (including nature) This is how we rise. This is how we rebuild. This is #howwecitizen. Happy #EarthDay 📍who else is transforming crisis into care? Tag them below. Like this? 10 years of transformative change. 💛✨ We’re deeply honored to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles—signed by Mayor Karen Bass and presented by Deputy Chief of Staff Solomon Rivera—and from State Senator Maria Elena Durazo, celebrating a decade of impact. This recognition also belongs to our incredible community partners, past and present staff, and every client who has trusted us on this journey. Together, we’ve built something powerful—and the work for a more just, equitable world is far from over. Here’s to the next decade of centering community and making a difference. 🌎✊🏽 #10YearsOfImpact #CommunityFirst #EquityInAction #LosAngeles #Recognition #SocialJustice

This past month, we hosted our first Second Chances Month event in the San Fernando Valley. When people have a path to a good job, everything changes. It means stability. It means dignity. It means safer communities. That’s why we’re continuing to invest in re-entry programs, workforce training, and partnerships that connect people to opportunities. We don’t give up on people. And when we open doors, Los Angeles moves forward together

At Revolve Impact, we stand with Dolores Huerta and all survivors who are sharing their stories. Their courage reminds us of our ability to affect change in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities. As a movement-driven impact agency, we honor their leadership, their lived experiences, and their leading role in various intersecting movements for justice. We uplift their voices. We amplify their messages. And we recommit ourselves to building a more just and compassionate future Sí se puede.

Revolve Impact will be closed on Friday, January 30th in solidarity with the general strike. We work alongside communities most impacted by harm, and today that means pausing business as usual to stand with immigrant families and the broader movement for dignity and justice. Standing up against hatred is not optional. It’s our commitment. #NoOneIsIllegal #nohumanisillegal #nooneisillegalonstolenland

Thank you @breannastewart30 and everyone using their voice to call for an end to the violence. We stand with Minneapolis and families across the country demanding dignity, safety, and justice. Everyone can do something in this critical moment in history. Calling your senators is one way to make a concrete difference. Do it today. — Repost @bensheehan @kagawacolas FULL SCRIPT for calling your senators in one image. Call 202-224-3121. Ask to be connected to each of your two senators (two calls total). Read this or a version of it (feel free to riff). They’re voting THIS WEEK. I’ve shown what this looks like in a reel on my page (if you need more guidance). Thanks in advance — and if you want more actionable info without rage bait, follow this account 🙏 #usa #news #politics

Episode 11 comes out tomorrow and it’s something really special. This episode comes from a powerful live panel conversation titled “Sacred Lessons: Exploring Men’s Healing,” recorded at the launch of @indigenoushouse - a visionary space rooted in Indigenous culture, creativity, and community. Joined by @emceeone @ericmicha3l and @thosh.collins we hold an honest, necessary conversation about redefining manhood in a time when our communities are calling for healing. Listen to Episode 11 of Sacred Lessons tomorrow on the iHeartRadio App, or wherever you get your podcasts. #sacredlessons #mycultura #iheartmedia

My heart is completely shattered by the passing of John Forté, a musical genius, father, and beloved friend. John’s brilliance, vulnerability, and spirit forever changed me and everyone who had the opportunity to meet him. I met John more than 15 years ago, and had the privilege to perform with him right after his release from prison at the Roxy Theatre and at Sylmar Juvenile Hall, at the time the largest youth prison in the western hemisphere. From that day forward, John was a guiding force on the #SchoolsNotPrisons Tour, sharing his talent, his wisdom, and his compassion with every room he entered. His life and his artistry carried truth, love, and possibility. John, thank you for your heart, your friendship, and your willingness to utilize your life in service to others. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and loved ones. You will be truly missed and I will forever love you. #johnforté #schoolsnotprisons #love

One year ago today, everything changed. Our relief efforts began immediately @tepitocoffee partnering with @homeboyindustries to provide free coffee and pastries to firefighters every morning at 6am at the command center at the Rose Bowl, for over two weeks. What started as an act of care in the middle of crisis became something much bigger. DENA Heals was created in response to the devastating Eaton Fire to support the long-term recovery of fire-impacted individuals and families across Altadena, Pasadena, and Sierra Madre. Coordinated by Revolve Impact, and in collaboration with our community partners, our Health & Wellness Center offers healing services and community-rooted programming — all at no cost to participants. Since opening our doors on January 30, 2025, we’ve reached 6,500+ directly impacted people and over 1,470 families not just with resources, but with dignity, care, and community. Today, we honor: • The fire survivors who continue to rebuild with courage • The first responders who showed up without hesitation • And everyone still fighting for a just, community-centered recovery This work is far from over but one year in, we are reminded that collective care is powerful, and healing is possible when we show up for one another. We truly love you Altadena 💚 Thank you to all of our local and national partners, including: @handsinthesoil , @weareangelcity , @altamedhealths , @launitedway , @fabletics @athletes4impact , @colibricollective_ , @firepoppyproject , @daylaborernetwork ,, @jazzyjampasadena , @latinocommfdn , @thepaseo_ , @BotanicaMelo , @calfund , @altadenagirls , @davidlynchfoundation , @evolvealtadena , @mytriberise , @calendow , @cityofpasadena , @greengoddessglow , @salomewellnesscollective , @voltadrumdance , @artivistent , @pasadenacommunityfoundation , @wckitchen , @biancagabriellewilson , @givesope.worldwide , Fuerza Fund, Durfee Foundation, DENA Soil Coalition, 4 Good Community, 1000 Voices Altadena Mosaic, Ife Sangode-Olaitan, and many others.
