Evolve Altadena’s group meeting took place at @metabolicstudio today. We got a tour of their site and the work they’re doing with the LA River and soil bio remediation. It was an enlightening experience and we look forward to growing together. 🌱💚
Many thanks to @handsinthesoil for bringing community together in this beautiful way. Through The Fire Procession was transformative and healing. We are still processing the profound beauty and love of the day. More words later. On behalf of Evolve Altadena, thank you Yancy and AuTree for leading this beautiful offering. - Maya

The purpose of these workshops was to hold this community in a creative process that could provoke new imaginations about what was experienced, what currently exists and what is possible. It was a joy to share our words with the greater community.

Climate change supercharged the Eaton Canyon Fire destroying over 9,000 buildings and killing at least 18 people making it the second most destructive fire in California’s history and the most destructive fire ever in Los Angeles. Disasters including the Eaton Canyon Fire occur within the context of our society’s preexisting systemic racism and hit Altadena’s poor and working class communities of color hardest while the recovery efforts are deepening inequality.
We must protect and nurture the culture and soul of our home in partnership with each other and the land based on ancestral knowledge and practice for past, present and future generations. We must organize our community and demand a Just Recovery!
Join us!! Evolve Altadena performs powerful original songs by survivors of the Eaton Canyon fire, created through the collective songwriting project Re-Storying Our Future led by Quetzal Flores and Maya Jupiter.
