📣 WEBINAR: What can a redlined community’s historic win teach us about advancing civil rights today?
When the Eaton Fire exposed evacuation disparities in West Altadena, fire-impacted Black women leaders built a local multicultural movement demanding accountability. Through a year-long fight, @altadenaforaccountability won the first-ever civil rights investigation following a climate disaster in U.S. history. Join us to hear insights from the lead organizers who made this historic win and learn what’s next in their work towards reparations for fire survivors.

✅ IT PASSED! AB 1642 is moving to the Assembly Floor!
Yesterday, AB 1642 — the Wildfire Environmental Safety and Testing Act — passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
This is a major milestone and it happened because of this community. Your stories. Your signatures. Your voices in Sacramento.
AB 1642 would establish California's first mandatory, health-based standards for determining when a wildfire-impacted home, school, or workplace is safe to reoccupy. No more patchwork assessments. Science sets the standard.
The Assembly Floor vote is expected the week of May 25th. That means we have one week to make sure every Assembly member hears from their constituents.
Here's what you can do right now:

👉 Urge your Assembly Member to vote YES on AB 1642

Every voice matters. Every share matters. Every WUI fire survivor deserves a safe return, rebuild, and recovery. #ClearanceBeforeOccupancy
How can you genuinely expect to receive any love, heck, or compliments (genuinely) if you don’t even love, (or like!) yourself?! Start there! Oxygen mask goes in you first ✈️ then we Share it to Bear it 🦋
@cagovernor promised billions for wildfire recovery. Now survivors are being asked to celebrate a new $100M “rebuilding fund” that doesn’t even provide direct cash assistance.
@SupervisorKathrynBarger Families are still being told there’s “no money” while funds remain delayed, inaccessible, or sitting in unclear accounts. Where is the urgency from County leadership to demand answers on behalf of the people you represent?
@latimes says Gov. Gavin Newsom will propose a new $100-million fund to help wildfire victims afford loans to rebuild their homes under a revised budget plan set to be released Thursday.
Survivors don’t need more financing programs that could push families deeper into debt.
@cagovernor promised $2.5B for LA fire recovery. Now hundreds of millions went unspent and are no longer available while survivors are still displaced and rebuilding has stalled.
Today, Eaton Fire survivors gathered in Altadena to ask a simple question: Where is the money?
