My old housemate @lukemontgomeryphoto sends me a version of this photo about every 4 years and this is the slightly less mental version of the colour one zoomed out to show triple the clutter with 9 sports direct mugs hidden within. Anyway. Me, a shared house in hackney in maybe 2015. Im not proud of it but its kind of funny and a good photo. I was finally diagnosed with adhd about 8 years after this lol. And yeah my room is not that much less mental now but maybe a bit but maybe not
I made some new plates for our summer open studio which I was quite proud of, earthenware spongeware/ majolica/ with a bit of slipware. They are £95 each including a 20% donation to @_allourrelations . I will post the available ones in my stories now. Message to reserve and I will send tomorrow. Postage and packing extra or collection from Seven Sisters. Xx
Go to the Textiles for Palestine event hosted by @craftshowjournal@whenthisyousee at @praxis_n16 this Sunday 6th july to buy this hand printed and painted and dyed silk quilt i made plus loads of other beautiful textile pieces. All money made is split between 3 palestinian charities. I’m not sure of the pricing system but its not an auction i dont think so get in quick and snap up the beautiful pieces, I’ve seen sneak peeks on stories of beautiful work by @roberta.cummings@beyondthedrift@allthatisbraw@loraavedian and many more, take a look at @craftshowjournal or @whenthisyousee for images. I’ll be there around 5. There will be workshops. Free Palestine
I’m still thinking about what is probably the most moving artwork the Tate has ever shown. The Aids memorial quilt is a statement of love, grief and defiance with lovingly stitched (grave plot sized) rectangles made by everyday people all around the world and pieced together in communal memory. It only begins to hint at the void left by so many bright, beautiful and lives (so many more than will ever be represented) and all the things they did not get the chance to do, make, see, feel. My heart aches for how some of them were treated and for all the people left to deal with their gaping absences. Walking around I could hear people that obviously knew those depicted in these squares and I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose so many friends overnight like many did. The way our government dealt with the AIDS crisis is yet another of the governments’ in our country’s unforgivable crimes on humanity. The current attack on trans rights being no exception and once again proving the importance of community in protecting each other. The squares tell that it was the people, many with HIV themselves that were left to set up phone lines and support networks.
If you didn’t catch it, the Aids memorial quilt website has photos of each square and added information and even voice recordings on some. My overwhelming feeling seeing this was love for people- for all the people that made these, for the people it was made for and the thousands of people who flocked to see this on the few short days it was on display. (Why so short tate?)
One day the Tate will probably show one of the many quilts and community art projects that are being made in a desperate statements of love and solidarity for Gaza right now and wont mention how silent they were, how they silenced their employees and how many protesters pleaded they cut ties with complicit organisations, such is the hypocrisy of the art world.
The people keep on in face of it all🪡 👞💙💜💖
I was asked to go on a last minute buying job for a design studio last weekend and got to spend my afternoons getting lost on purpose in the impossibly bucolic Romanian countryside looking at storks, wildflowers dogs and haybales. Don’t know how to stop insta from cropping these badly but the Romanian countryside never fails to take my breath away. So much beauty in just one long weekend. I have about 300 blurry photos of storks that i kept screeching to a halt to try capture if anyone is interested haha ive gotten really brave/ dangerous at driving abroad alone!
Getting over my fear of the grid to share these prayer cushions i stumbled across in a church by monument yesterday 10 mins before closing. This is my favourite kind of art tbh
