Last summer George asked me if I would ever have an allotment. I burst into tears, “I don’t know how to have an allotment without my Dad”. My Dad had just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Last month the cosmos (allotment waiting list) decided it was time to offer me a plot. Yesterday I was able to take my parents to see it. The cosmos was right to offer this up. I hope to put all my Dads immense generational knowledge into this patch of land 🌱 💚
Yes, that’s a massive potato in a crown.
All these colours are from nature, either foraged or from extract. The yellow snail is from the dahlia in my garden. The darker purpley grey is from gladioli from my parent’s allotment. The oak gall for the potato was collected by @natasha.taheem
A beautiful 3 days of learning about and printing with natural dye lead by @ceres_naturaldyesprints and a total pleasure to meet @natasha.taheem and Amma and work alongside you!
Last weekend I was in Krakow, mainly to see the annual exhibition of szopki (nativity scenes), a long standing folk tradition made by locals. The detail on some is just astounding. My favourites are when the figures are also made out of foil too. Such a joy to see these shiny wonders.
This is the best I could do at an edit!
10 years ago today we collected this babe from her weird previous life as a breeding queen. A decade of Viv, the best velvet slug I could have asked for. Not sure we’ve got that much longer left with the old gal but here’s hoping her retirement years with us continue a little longer.
A very edited selection of highlights from the ethnographic museum in Krakow.
The girl in the last slide is my new icon and I will be taking her energy with me everywhere, especially work meetings, and into conversations with folk who try to convince me ai is fine or are pretending the world is not on fire.
In all the doom it was nice to be reminded that humans can make wonderful things.
