@_sani2c is a wrap.
We sent two teams to one of South Africa’s most popular stage races this year. Unathi and his brother from another mother Thabiso were highly motivated to show their worth at this race once again. The pair finished just outside the top ten last year and were keen to mix it up with some of South Africa’s best marathon riders.
Lady luck wasn’t on their side however. During Stage 2, on the mighty drop into Umkomaas Valley, Thabiso crashed hard onto his shoulder. The x-rays showed no broken bones, but a dislocated AC joint which will take him some time to recover from.
Unathi quickly put the disappointment aside and took the Strava KOM challenge on the climb out of the valley by the horns. He not only impressed himself, but set the fastest time on the segment.
Damon and Tumelo had their own challenges to overcome, with Tumelo suffering a hard crash during Stage 1 and a mechanical issue on Stage 2. Lining up for the last stage, just 1min 40 separated them from the top ten on GC. That was all the motivation they needed to go full throttle into the final day to Scottburgh.
And how they blitzed through the sugar cane fields. On the final 86km to the sea, they put more than 7min into their closest competitors to secure P10.

One week on from the race that tested us in every way imaginable.
We stepped onto the biggest stage in our sport not just to compete — but to share a message:
Without freedom, there is no joy. No creativity. Only anxiety.
Without reconciliation, we remain in anger, in fear, in limitation.
Without unity, we are alone and lost.
Without opportunity, we cannot thrive.
Four riders. Different countries. Different stories. Different realities.
But one team.
We came together to chase something we love — to feel the freedom of expression, the joy of movement, the purpose of belonging.
But the Cape Epic doesn’t just reveal your strength. It reveals everything.
The rough trails, relentless climbs, and unforgiving elements brought out not only the best in us, but also our doubts, our fears, our imperfections.
We struggled. We misunderstood each other. We made mistakes.
At times, we hurt more than just our bodies.
But we also did something more important:
We apologised.
We forgave.
We learned.
And we chose to do better.
Because unity isn’t the absence of conflict — it’s the commitment to move through it, together.
Races like this will never be easy. Life isn’t either.
But we choose it anyway.
We choose the challenge.
We choose the discomfort.
We choose to listen, to grow, to embrace perspectives beyond our own.
Because life isn’t black or white.
It’s every shade in between.
And that’s where real growth lives.
Thank you @capeepic for the brutally hard, deeply beautiful memories — and for reminding us what it truly means to stay united when everything tries to pull you apart. ❤️

The toughest race. The strongest stories.
A week in South Africa that will stay with us. Days of effort, teamwork and resilience captured through every pedal stroke of @klimatizateam , @speedcompanyracing , @orbeafactoryteam and @pumpforpeace . Cape Epic once again proved why it stands as the hardest MTB race in the world, pushing both riders and machines to their limits. Through it all, the Oiz rose to the challenge, performing at the highest level when it mattered most.
Thank you, South Africa. Thank you to every person who made this journey unforgettable.
