The gallery provides a contemporary exhibition space for significant and challenging exhibitions by local and national artists and art organizations. The Hulsey Gallery provides School of Visual Arts students with educational opportunities related to collection management and exhibition of art in a professional gallery. The mission of the Nona Jean Hulsey Art Gallery is to promote the understanding of and extend the audience for contemporary art, and to present exhibitions that inform, inspire and challenge the public, particularly students of Oklahoma City University. The Hulsey Art Gallery is an integral part of the School of Visual Arts, and it is used daily by visitors, students and faculty.

I am grateful to share that “Relay,” a new site-responsive installation, is now on view at the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art in Sedalia, Missouri. Installation days on site April 19-23, “Relay” is a large suspended sculpture that responds to the museum’s architecture through repeated arcs, loops, and a sense of movement through space. I am deeply grateful to the Daum Museum team for their care, trust, and support throughout the planning and installation process and to the CD team who worked alongside me on site with such focus, care, and generosity to help bring “Relay” into being. It was wonderful to spend last weekend in Oxford, Mississippi, making a site visit at the UM Museum. Looking, listening, measuring, and imagining as plans come into focus for a multi-gallery site-specific installation. Grateful for the conversations, hospitality, and the chance to brainstorm so many possibilities, along with visiting Faulkner’s home, Rowan Oak, and getting sneak peeks of the BFA and MFA thesis exhibitions. Special thanks curator Melanie Antonelli, Durant Thompson, Stacey Rathert, and Bill Griffith for their time and support while on campus. ArtRage is pleased to exhibit A Rising Tide of Plastic in Art from April 11th to May 23rd. An opening reception will be held on April 11th from 6 to 8 pm at ArtRage Gallery. This exhibition, guest-curated by Aurora Robson, founding member of Project Vortex, features a selection of works by Project Vortex members who are sequestering post-industrial and post-consumer plastic into art. Project Vortex is an international collective of artists, designers, and architects actively focusing on the global problem of plastic pollution through their art. Operating at the intersection of art and science, the collective strives to inspire people to rethink and reinvent plastic debris through innovation, creative stewardship, and education. Dedicated to improving global understanding of the impacts of plastic consumption and pollution, Project Vortex works to restrict the flow of plastic debris into the oceans and subsequently into the bodies of humans and animals. Registration is open for 2026 summer workshops at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I am looking forward to returning to Tennessee to teach a workshop titled “Collecting and Fabricating Landscapes” July 19-24, 2026 In this class we will build sculptural collages that fuse concept with careful making, focusing on constructed landscapes that feel both epic and ordinary. Expect craft-forward methods for sorting, pairing, and composing materials gathered by the tens or hundreds or thousands, plus reliable techniques for joining, reinforcing, and finishing: tying, stitching, wiring, riveting, layering, and building stable supports. First Day On Site Yesterday marked the beginning of my installation “Loop: Gravity Returning” at @okcontemporary . It was incredible to get to work on site and see this project start to take shape in the gallery! I’m honored to be part of “ArtNow 2025: Materials and Boundaries,” a biennial exhibition highlighting new and recent works from artists active across Oklahoma. Organized by Guest Curator Alexa Goetzinger and Guest Curatorial Assistant Virginia Sitzes, the show opens September 18, 2025 and runs through February 16, 2026. So grateful for the support from the Oklahoma Contemporary team and excited to share progress as this installation unfolds.
