Amnesia, 2015 Here is an incredible suspended sculpture by new Project Vortex member Steve McPherson, he has been working with discarded plastic objects that wash ashore on his local coast in the UK since 2007.

Photo by @_seababy_ Clean teeth, but not clean oceans. Did you know that every plastic toothbrush ever made still exists on our planet? These 16 toothbrushes were all collected on the same beach. There are better alternatives to the plastic toothbrush, such as bamboo! Some use boars hair bristles, others use nylon. Find the solution that works best for you! @thelaststraw__ #projectvortex #plasticart #toothbrush #saveourseas #planetoverplastic

Some eco tips to think about this week: -Instead of single-use stirrers, use a reusable one or a spoon. If you want to mix your coffee or tea without any help, put the milk and sugar first, then the drink! -Instead of plastic or individual packaging, choose traditional glass containers. -Everyday, take a minute to pick up one piece of litter on your way to work, to school, to the gym, or anywhere else Imagine if everyone picked up one piece of litter everyday for one year, how great an impact we would all make! -Dental floss is made with plastic (nylon or teflon) and due to its size, is almost impossible to recycle. Switch to non-plastic recyclable dental floss. It can be either charcoal or silk. Popular brands for this are @georganicsuk or @dentallace ! -Take an empty bottle of water with you through airport security. As long as it is empty you won't have any trouble. That way, you will be saving on expensive plastic bottles inside the terminal and reducing extra waste! -When grocery shopping, choose the loose fruits and vegetables with no packaging. If you want to go a step further, shop at your local farmers market or switch to online farmers markets that will deliver fruits and vegetables to your door every week, with zero waste, like @farmdrop in the UK, @laruchequiditoui in France or the equivalent in your country. -Foldable reusable bags are very handy! They don't take a lot of space in your bag, and can save you a lot of trouble when shopping! Say NO to plastic bags! @easyecotips #projectvortex #ecotips #planetoverplastic #reduce

Recently, a crew from @supnorthuk paddle boarded a 1 mile stretch of canal in Wigan, England. They fished out 438 plastic bottles and a bag full of polystyrene chip trays. People dedicated to their reusable water bottles and coffee cups, businesses switching to more sensible packaging, people doing the things they CAN, however big or small, change the world. Did you know: - Last year, Americans used about 390-500 million plastic straws every day. - It takes over 200 years for a plastic straw to decompose. - An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastic from straws in their stomachs. - 73% of beach litter worldwide is plastic. Know the facts! #SKIPTHESTRAW @smartie_lids_on_the_beach #projectvortex #planetoverplastic #plasticstraw #plasticwaste #saveourseas

Found object portrait of Frida Kahlo by Jane Perkins. Each piece of plastic, every singular button, by itself is considered trash. But, when combined with bits of other shapes, sizes and colors, becomes a work of art. #recycledart #projectvortex #plasticart #fridakahlo #saveourseas #janeperkins

Strawplosion by @wild_evi . Beautiful photography composed solely of plastic straws. "Plastic straws are too small to recycle and make one of the worst plastic items and top polluters! They break into tiny pieces ‘microplastics’ and the smaller they get – the bigger the damage for the environment and wildlife. Statistics show that we use more than 500 million straws a DAY! Just imagine how many of their pieces are added to our oceans and landfills everyday. If you don't need them for health reasons, avoid them, don't be shy and ask for your drink without straw" -@wild_evi @littercreatives #projectvortex #trashart #plasticart #saynotoplastic #refusesingleuse #plasticfree

#STOPSUCKING on single use plastic straws!! Not only do they take years to decompose, but they also disrupt the lives of countless sea creatures. Make the sustainable switch to reusable straws. Save the planet. @sea_strawss @greenpeace @breakfreefromplastic #sustainableliving #stopsucking #zerowaste #savetheseaturtles #breakfreefromplastic #greenpeace #projectvortex
