“For me, it’s never really been about choosing one discipline. I believe all the design work, the conceptual sculptures, the photos, and films, can live inside the same ecosystem.” — 𝗗𝗼𝘇𝗶𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝘂 For #PINUP40, the Texas-born, Lisbon-based artist @dozie.kanu packed a van with works from his studio and drove south to Lagos, Portugal. The town shares its name with Nigeria’s largest city (where Kanu’s family is from) but it’s also the port from which the first enslaved Africans were brought to Europe in 1444. It was here that he was photographed by @jimcnedd in front of a lighthouse painted the colors of the Nigerian flag. @vcamblin spoke with Kanu about refusing categories: from his recent solo show at Fondazione @ica_milano , his new table collection for @knoll , to his first feature film and debut LP.
