🎥 Very happy to share this music video that I directed for Deutsche Grammophon @dgclassics , set to an original composition "Habari Gani" by the precocious talent and all around cool guy @qblache . This track is one of the lead singles from a brilliant new album by @sphinxvirtuosi , "American Mirror." Unbelievable choreography from @jaredallan and @tetheredresidents , who I can only describe as dance savants and masters of movement.
We filmed this sequence in Cortlandt Alley, a liminal zone where you might pick up a counterfeit handbag on your way to Chinatown.
Thank you to @sphinxorg , @just_b.creative and @bassplayaplaya for making this happen.
Go to @dgclassics to view on their channel.

Inspired by the Swahili greeting of Kwanzaa, this work bursts with vibrant meter, pentatonic color, and unstoppable energy.

Huei Lin - film director of Il Teatro Rosso, Huei’s creativity and imagination have been a driving force behind this project! Il Teatro Rosso premieres on Feb 25 at @theatre_plaza - link in bio for tickets!
Huei aka @phuctoot is a filmmaker and author from New York City. His work is known for its blending of the abstract and the deconstructed; his images are often crafted from street scenes, fragments of light beams and the raw expressions of his subjects. About Il Teatro Rosso, he says:
“For Il Teatro Rosso, I wanted to create a timeless visual universe for the musicians of No Hay Banda to inhabit. Unrestrained colors, theatrical stagings and video fragments. The musicians are the cast, performing Takasugi’s musical epic from a vaudevillian showroom. The result is a “visual soundtrack” which follows the music; an inversion of the relationship between film and film score. The images contained in this film are woven into a fictional world both familiar and remote, nostalgic but askew. Our world is a “red theater”- but when we pull back the curtain, what will be see?
“ - Huei Lin
